3.1. 2016 / 123 - Response to Connie Martin's Motion of 03/02/16 regarding
Innovative Curriculum Initiatives in our district.
Wendy Crocker-Roberge and the Pyne/Arts team presented a PowerPoint presentation that depicted
the Core Curriculum and the many different initiatives taking place at the school. They also shared a
short video with the Committee. The Pyne/Arts Students opened the meeting with the singing of the
Star Spangle Banner and concluded the meeting with another song. The name of their musical group is
called “ENCHORD”.

14.2. 2016 / 126 - Policy Subcommittee: Report of the Meeting of Tuesday, March 15, 2016
[Robert Hoey, Chair]
Mr. Hoey, Chairperson of the Policy Subcommittee updated the Committee on the School Assignment
Process for Non-Residents. At the present time there are 22 staff members not living in Lowell with a
total of 32 children attending Lowell Public Schools. Ten (10) of the 32 children attend the same school
that their parent currently works in. Mr. Hoey explained the current processes and procedures and also
informed the Committee the many options are available to them. A motion was then made to
recommend to the full School Committee to adhere to state law that Lowell residents have preference
in the Lowell Public Schools and those children of staff only be allowed to enroll in the Lowell Public
Schools if space allows. Also, to look into making the wait list transparent as well as looking at the
whole issue of school choice in terms of the funding piece. A substitute motion was then made to have
the Superintendent develop a policy regarding student enrollment that will comply with state law in the

15. 2016 / 107 - Response to Robert Gignac's Question Regarding Finances.
Mr. Gary Frisch, School Business Administrator informed the Committee that Frank Antonelli, Interim
Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations earned $ 79,350 from July 30, 2015 through
February 25, 2016. He also addressed the Assistant Superintendent’s budget line and an upcoming
transfer that will be taking place from that line.
The report was accepted as a report of progress.

Margo Ferrick presented a PowerPoint presentation about the LHS Career Academy. The presentation
provided an overview of the Full Service Community School and Innovation School Planning Grants as
well as highlighted the Engagement Center.
The report was accepted as a report of progress and was also referred to the Student Support Services
Subcommittee for further discussion.

(Fund 1201). Both motions passed and the transfers were approved.
21. 2016 / 122 - Vote to accept a Grant Award of $2,500 from Kronos to IDEA Camp.
The Lowell Public Schools received a donation in the amount of $ 2,500 from Knonos in support of
Lowell’s summer IDEA camp. The donation was accepted and approved.

cost of $3500 will be paid by United Teachers of Lowell. The cost of $400
for two substitute teachers will be paid by the District Professional
Development account.

The Lowell Public Schools has recently received a donation check in the amount of
$2,500.00 from Kronos in support of Lowell’s summer IDEA Camp pending acceptance
by the Lowell School Committee.
This financial support is a commitment by this local company to encourage the
implementation of workshops and pre-engineering programs that we are offering to our
middle school students to fuel STEM career paths.
