LOWELL SCHOOL COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Date: September 12, 2018 Time: 7:30PM Location: LPS Central Office Administration, 155 Merrimack Street, 5th Floor, Lowell, MA 01852 1. SALUTE TO FLAG 2. ROLL CALL On a roll call at 7:39 p.m., all members were present, namely: Mr. Lay, Ms. Martin, Mr. Nutter, Mayor Samaras, Mr. Descoteaux, Ms. Doherty and Mr. Hoey. 3. NEW BUSINESS 3.I. Day School Custodial Services At the Joint Facilities and AD-HOC Building Naming Subcommittee that was held previous to tonight’s School Committee meeting the following three (3) options were shared:  Option 1 - Custodial Overtime $32.04 (rate) 180 (days) 4(hours) $23,068.80 Due to contractual obligations we would have to change the custodian on a daily basis if the Committee chooses Option 1.  Option 2 - Leaseholder Option $29,000.00  Option 3- Leaseholder Option for Day School $29,000.00 Use Advantage Plus for Central Office $35,000.00 Move part-time Central Office custodian to the STEM Academy @ Rogers for adequate coverage $0 The previous Assistant Superintendent for Finance had one (1) custodian clean the Central offices as well as the STEM Academy @ Rogers which really doesn’t fit the needs of both facilities. Total $64,000.00 Offset from savings due to the City covering abatement costs $-50,000.00 Total $14,000.00 Lowell Public Schools • 155 Merrimack Street • Lowell, MA 01852 • http://www.lowell.k12.ma.us  (Page 2 of 3) Mr. Underwood had informed the Subcommittee that the cost savings due to the City covering abatement costs is $50,000. The difference that the School Department has to pay is $14,000 and the district would receive a lot of services for that cost. Mr. Underwood recommended Option Three (3) to the Subcommittee. Ms. Doherty, Chairperson of the Joint Facilities and AD-HOC Building Naming Subcommittee brought forward the Subcommittees recommendation of Option Three (3). Ms. Doherty made a motion to choose Option Three (3); seconded by Mr. Nutter. 7 yeas APPROVED 3.II. Approval of Acting Superintendent’s Recommendation to Appoint Frederick McOsker as Acting Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services Ms. Doherty made a motion to approve the Acting Superintendent’s recommendation to appoint Frederick McOsker as Acting Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services; seconded by Mr. Descoteaux. 7 yeas APPROVED Lowell Public Schools • 155 Merrimack Street • Lowell, MA 01852 • http://www.lowell.k12.ma.us  (Page 3 of 3) 4.
