City Council

City Council Meeting Monday, June 11, 2018 The meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Larry Schickling. Those in attendance were; John Nelson, Dave Whitney, and Larry Schickling. A Motion was made by John Nelson and seconded by Dave Whitney to approve the Consent Items. Voting in favor of said motion, Dave Whitney, John Nelson, Larry Schickling motion was approved with Mike Grote and Andy Gappa absent. A Motion was made by John Nelson to approve removing a section of the curb on First Street NW along the north side of Hartshorn Manor; allowing for the construction of 6 to 8 angle parking stalls. After Council discussion, John Nelson amended his motion to approve straight-in parking that would allow for 8 to 10 parking stalls. Dave Whitney seconded the motion. Voting in favor of said motion; John Nelson, Larry Schickling and Dave Whitney, motion was approved with Mike Grote and Andy Gappa absent. A Motion was made by Dave Whitney and seconded by John Nelson to approve City Attorney Patrick Casey contacting Ashok Goyal, owner of the Madelia Hotel – informing him of the need to bring his “Fire Safety” equipment up to code within 30 days, or the City of Madelia will contact the State Fire Marshall in regard to the Hotel being negligent in regard to the safety of staff and visitors. Voting in favor of said motion; John Nelson, Larry Schickling and Dave Whitney. Voting against none, motion was approved with Mike Grote and Andy Gappa absent. A Motion was made by John Nelson and seconded by Dave Whitney to approve advertising for the position of Utility Worker including the applications on file; with the understanding the applicants do not need to reapply nor re-interview. Voting in favor of said motion; John Nelson, Larry Schickling and Dave Whitney. Voting against none, motion was approved with Mike Grote and Andy Gappa absent. With no further business before the Council, A Motion was made by Dave Whitney and seconded by John Nelson to adjourn the meeting. Voting in favor of said motion, John Nelson, Dave Whitney, Larry Schickling. Voting against none, motion carried with Mike Grote and Andy Gappa absent.
