City Council Meeting Monday, December 26, 2018 The meeting was called to order by Mayor Mike Grote. Those in attendance were; Dave Whitney, Andy Gappa and Nate Ellis. A Motion was made by Dave Whitney and seconded by Andy Gappa to approve the Consent Items. Voting in favor of said motion, Mike Grote, Nate Ellis, Dave Whitney and Andy Gappa. Motion was approved with Larry Schickling absent. A Motion was made by Andy Gappa and seconded by Nate Ellis to approve “Not Waiving” the City’s monetary limits on tort liability. This will mean the City will only be held liable up to 1.5 million dollars for any individual or combined tort if the City were to be sued. Voting in favor of said motion; Mike Grote, Nate Ellis, Dave Whitney, and Andy Gappa. Motion was approved with Larry Schickling absent from the vote. A Motion was made by Dave Whitney and seconded by Andy Gappa to approve reinstating the Sergeant’s position with the Madelia Police Department with a recommendation from Police Chief Rob Prescher to award the position to Officer Travis Bottelson as of January 1, 2019 with an increase to his hourly wage of $1.00. Voting in favor of said motion; Mike Grote, Nate Ellis,Dave Whitney and Andy Gappa. Motion was approved with Larry Schickling absent from the vote. A Motion was made by Andy Gappa and seconded by Nate Ellis to approve the following members of the Madelia Fire Department to serve as officers for the year 2019; Ryan Visher – Fire Chief Dustin VanHale – 1st Assistant to the Fire Chief Bill Crowley – 2nd Assistant to the Fire Chief Adam Lawrence – Training Officer Voting in favor of said motion; Mike Grote, Nate Ellis, Dave Whitney and Andy Gappa. Motion was approved with Larry Schickling absent from the vote. A Motion was made by Dave Whitney and seconded by Nate Ellis to approve the following members of the Madelia Ambulance Service to serve as officers for the year 2019; Becky Griebel – Captain Chris Burban – Ambulance Manager Terri Baumgartner – Training Officer Jessica Holm – Secretary Voting in favor of said motion; Mike Grote, Nate Ellis, Dave Whitney and Andy Gappa. Motion was approved with Larry Schickling absent from the vote. A Motion was made by Andy Gappa and seconded by Dave Whitney to approve the employment of Heather Utz for the position of Assistant City Administrator with a start date of January 2, 2019. Voting in favor of said motion; Mike Grote, Nate Ellis, Dave Whitney and Andy Gappa. Motion was approved with Larry Schickling absent from the vote. With no further business before the Council, A Motion was made by Andy Gappa and seconded by Dave Whitney to adjourn the meeting. Voting in favor of said motion, Nate Ellis, Dave Whitney, Mike Grote and Andy Gappa. The meeting was adjourned.
