City Council

City Council Meeting Monday, July 27, 2020 The meeting was called to order by Mayor Mike Grote via phone conference. Those in attendance were; Mike Grote, Cody Eager, Andy Gappa, Larry Schickling and Dave Whitney. Roll call being taken: Mike Grote David Whitney Cody Eager Andy Gappa Larry Schickling Chris Fischer Chris Paul Chief Prescher Heather Thomas – Times Messager A Motion was made by Dave Whitney and seconded by Larry Schickling to approve the Consent Items. Voting in favor of said motion by roll call; Mike Grote-Yes, Cody Eager-Yes, Andy Gappa-Yes and Dave Whitney-Yes, Larry Schickling-Yes. Motion was approved. A Motion was made by Andy Gappa and seconded by Dave Whitney to approve contributing 10% of the CARES Relief funds to go towards small business grants. This Business Grant program will be administered by the City of St. James Economic Development Authority as part of the Watonwan County Revolving Loan Fund. At this time the County will contribute $325,000 (25%), City of St. James will contribute $34,242.10 (10%) and the City of Madelia will contribute $17,343.30 (10%), for a total of $376,585.40. Application and guidelines are attached to minutes Voting in favor of said motion by roll call; Mike Grote-Yes, Cody Eager-Yes, Andy Gappa-Yes and Dave Whitney-Yes, Larry Schickling-Yes. Motion was approved. A Motion was made by Larry Schickling and seconded by Dave Whitney to not accept bids for stone shelter roof repairs. Council discussed and decided to advertise another RFP requesting a steel roof replacement and to budget it for next year 2021. Voting in favor of said motion by roll call; Mike Grote-Yes, Cody Eager-Yes, Andy Gappa-Yes and Dave Whitney-Yes, Larry Schickling-Yes. Motion was approved. With no further business before the Council, A Motion was made by Andy Gappa and seconded by Dave Whitney to adjourn the meeting. Voting in favor of said motion by roll call; Mike Grote-Yes, Cody Eager-Yes, Andy Gappa-Yes, Larry Schickling-Yes and Dave Whitney-Yes. Motion was approved.
