Regular Meeting Active Adult Center Advisory Board October 18, 2022 A Regular Meeting of the Madison Heights Active Adult Center Advisory Board was called to order by Assistant Parker, October 18, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Active Adult Center Municipal Building at 29448 John R Road, Madison Heights, MI 48071. Present: Bessler, Dalling, Leuffgen, Patton, Ratliff, Salley, Smith, Quigley, and Topping. Also Present: Center Assistant Parker, Councilor Wright. Absent: Coordinator Cowan, DPS Director Almas, DPS Supervisor Ballantine, Councilman Fleming. An invocation was led by Ms. Parker. 19-01. Minutes. Motion by Ms. Quigley seconded by Ms. Dalling to adopt the minutes from the Regular Meeting of September 20, 2022 as printed. Yeas: Bessler, Dalling, Leuffgen, Patton, Ratliff, Salley, Smith, Quigley, and Topping. Nays: None. Absent: None. 19-02. Meeting Open to the Public. Past Chair Mowry gave her input on the quality of the apple pies made for the apple pie day fundraiser. She felt some of the pies were not up to par. 19-03. Staff Report. Ms. Parker reported on programs currently happening at the Center, and Center closings. 19-04. Maintenance Requests Ms. Parker reported that the front door ADA Buttons have been repaired. 19-05. Budget Requests None. 1 10-18-22 AACAB Regular Meeting Active Adult Center Advisory Board October 18, 2022 19-06. Unfinished Business. Ms. Parker reported that the AAC made $50 from the Perennial Sale. Ms. Parker stated that Apple Pie Day went well. We don’t know the exact profit just yet; however we know it will be lower since we only had 82 pies on order this year, down from prior years. Ms. Parker announced the new mobile meal provider is Western Oakland Meals on Wheels and it seems to be going well. Ms. Parker stated that we will continue Ray's Thursday Meals on a month by month basis, through October for now. Ms. Parker reminded everyone of the upcoming election and that there is a SMART Transportation Millage on the ballot. Ms. Parker reminded everyone that we will be having a Thanksgiving Luncheon this year and donations of funds and product are going great. Ms. Parker reported that the Holiday Lights Voting and Luncheon (or dinner) will be on Tuesday, December 13. 19-07. New Business. Ms. Parker announced the Lamphere Senior Play and Luncheon will be on November 2. Ms. Parker stated that we are still receiving info on the December School Holiday Lunches. Info will be in the next newsletter. Ms. Parker reported that due to prior year’s low attendance we will not be having a Veteran's Program and will be referring people over to the Women’s Club event on Veterans Day. Ms. Parker stated that we will be having AARP Tax Assistance this upcoming year, and more info will be in the next newsletter. 2 10-18-22 AACAB Regular Meeting Active Adult Center Advisory Board October 18, 2022 19-08. Treasurer’s Report. Ms. Parker notified everyone that September’s report was not ready from the Treasurer’s office in time for the meeting and will be submitted for approval at the November 2022 meeting. 19-09. Council & Administration Updates. Councilor Wright gave updates on the Animal Shelter. He stated that we have been partnering with Oakland County and in the near future the shelter will only be for overnight stay and then the animals will be shipped to the Animal Shelter in Pontiac. Councilor Wright stated that City Council will be discussing ordinances regarding rezoning for cannabis facilities. This would potentially limit how many would be able to be in the city and how far away they would need to be from schools. 19-10. Adjournment.
