CITY OF MADISON HEIGHTS CITY HALL - EXECUTIVE CONFERENCE ROOM, 300 W. 13 MILE RD. ARTS BOARD MEETING AGENDA NOVEMBER 01, 2022 AT 7:00 PM CALL TO ORDER 7:01PM ROLL CALL Present: Council Rep Bliss Chair Steven Dombroski Michael Covert Laurie Gerald’s Jillian Sweet Vita Palazzolo Jason Theodoroff Jennifer Nagle Staff Liaison Adam Owczarzak Absent: Jennifer Zmarzlik Council Alternate Emily Rohrbach Member Ahnalee Basler Alternate Amy Lewis ADDITIONS/DELETIONS None. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Approval of Minutes of September 28,2022 Meeting Motion by Laurie Second by Jason to approve the minutes as amended. Aye: All Nay None. Jenni Z Gave notice that she is resigning from the board. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC No public present. REPORTS 2. Treasurer Report: Arts Board Account: $3,210.41 Trail Tunes $,8,400.16 Pumpkin walk has around $200 in account. 3. Social Media Report: Councilman Bliss gave an update on the Arts Board Social Media Accounts. The Arts Board Facebook added 17 likes in the past 30 days, The last Post had a Reach of 4,000 views with 137 reactions, 24 comments, 14 shares, The Arts Board Facebook page Audience is 80% women 20% men. 4. Trail Tunes Recap (Bliss, Dombrowski, Theodoroff, Palazzolo) : Councilman Bliss said this is the most streamlined event to date. Everyone knew what to do. A lot of local events happening during the event. Trail tunes will go back to Saturday next year. 2023 tentative date is Saturday, September 9th. There was mention that they would like to incorporate a battle with the bands event and a beer tent next year. Street Advertising on John R is very important 5. Pumpkin Walk Recap (Gerald’s, Sweet, Theodoroff) : Geralds mentioned that the event had three groups instead of four. The event was well received. She hopes that the ghostbusters and the witch dance will return next year. Choosing a date earlier in the year to lock in the date for next year would help logistically. Expenses were low. Hopcroft donated candy. The extra candy was donated to Madison School District. Glowing pumpkin jugs were a big hit. Stormtrooper bowling was a huge hit. Locking in Dates by March the next year. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 6. Restaurant Nights No New Updates. 7. Ground Interactive Murals in Parks and Schools A. Monarch Lifecycle at Rosie’s Park - Update Sue Popp said that she would be willing to volunteer at this event. B. Trotto new installations at Monroe and Wildwood: Laurie will reach out to Amber to see where this stand. 8. Gala (Geralds, Bliss, Dombrowski, Palazzolo, Nagle) - Spring 2023 Pending COVID Move the event to the spring. Club venetian or the Gazebo are options for the Gala. Andiamo’s is another option if possible. Subcommittee will meet, Monday November 14th @ 6:15 PM Gazebo, Rooster Tail, Club Venetian, Petruzzello’s, Andiamo, (Event will take place April/May). Jason can make a slideshow for the event. 9. Karaoke Night Fundraiser (Covert, Palazzolo, Nagle, Bliss) No New Updates 10. Grant Opportunities A. Play Everywhere KaBoom Grant! - Finish painting the sidewalk - Spring 2023 (Owczarzak) No New Updates. B. Progress Forward - Community Advisory Board (CAB) $5,000 January 20,2022 - Award Notice: Trail Tunes $2,500/Gala $1500 (Pumpkin Walk denied as violation of their governing rules prohibit marketing to children. - New Proposals (Geralds, Zmarslik, Rohrbach) No New Updates. C. Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan Grant - from $5,000 - $1,000,000 Deadlines: Feb 15 for Ju ne Decision, May 15th for September Decision, August 15 for December Decision, November 15th for March Decision (Dombrowski, Nagle, Palazzolo, Theodoroff, Bliss) Motion by Bliss Second by Covert to make that the new subcommittee. Aye- All Nay- None D. Band Stand Grant – Members will reach out to receive a copy of Farmington Hills Application. 11. Huffman Park Mural: This is complete. The Artists has been paid in Full. 12. Civic Center Complex Renovation - Art Installation Project (Bliss, Sweet, Nagle, Basler, Covert) Melissa is asking the MH Arts Board to partner with City staff to kick off a Public Art Display to take place on a rotating basis at municipal buildings (specifically City Hall, Library and Active Adult Center). Initially, the Arts Board is being requested to: Help promote the program and seek out artist to submit work including contacting the schools. Review the initial program and make suggestions to implementation. Assist staff in creating a review process for choosing art to be displayed. Help plan and promote the Grand Opening event and Art Exhibit Opening – TBD but planned first cycle March 2023 for City Hall and Library. 3 Submissions. 8 inquiries. Jen will come up with a proposal for email marketing proposal. 14. City of Madison Heights Arts Board Work Plan Motion by Nagle Second by Gerald’s to Approved the 2023 Arts Board Work Plan. Aye- All Nay- None. 15. Student Rep Information Update Board Discussed changes that were proposed. Motion by Nagle, second by Bliss to support ad amended Aye – All Nay- None NEW BUSINESS Motion by Gerald’s Second by Sweet to approve up to $100 for the tree lighting event table. Aye-All Nay- None. Request table and tent for tree lighting event. ADJOURNMENT 9:03PM Add Google Drive for Arts Board to add photos to.
