CITY OF MADISON HEIGHTS CITY HALL - LOWER LEVEL CONFERENCE ROOM "ROOM B" , 300 W. 13 MILE RD. ARTS BOARD MEETING AGENDA MARCH 28, 2023 AT 7:30 PM CALL TO ORDER 7:31 PM ROLL CALL Chair Steven Dombrowski Council Alternate Emily Rohrbach Michael Covert Laure Gerald’s Jillian McBride Vita Palazzolo Jason Theodoroff Jennifer Nagle Motion by Dombrowski Second by Theodoroff to Excuse Councilman Mark Bliss from the meeting. Aye: All Nay: None ADDITIONS/DELETIONS Chair Dombrowski Motion to add bike rodeo to the agenda. Motion by Gerald’s, Second, Rohrbach to add the Bike Rodeo to the agenda item number 14. Aye: All Nay: None APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Approval of Minutes - January 17th, 2023 Motion by Jason Second by Rohrbach to approve the minutes as amended. Aye: All Nay: None MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC No Public Present REPORTS 2. Treasurer Report: Arts Board Account has $4,552.70 Trail Tunes has $3,064.13 Pumpkin walk has 242.82. These funds are apart of the Arts Board Account. 3. Social Media Report: Facebook has 1100 followers. Social Has no changes due to low activity from the board. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 4. Trail Tunes (Bliss, Dombrowski, Palazzolo,Theodoroff) Chair Dombrowski gave an update, Marijuana Board (Community Advisory Board) is going to match the 5,000 donation. City Staff confirmed that September 9th is the confirmed date for the event. The subcommittee is Discussing the possibility of the addition of Battle of the Bands and beer tent but nothing has been sent in stone. 5. Pumpkin Walk (Geralds, McBride, Theodoroff) Geralds said that the group has not met yet to discuss. We will confirm dates with the City. Proposed dates are Friday October 20th or Saturday October 21st at Civic Center Park. 6. Statewide Independent Living Council proposal for inclusive art in Madison Heights (Rohrbach, Mcbride, Dombrowski, Geralds, Nagle) McBride and Rohrbach gave updates: The subcommittee has been meeting with members of SILC about the partnership. They plan on Meeting on Monday to finalize the date—the proposed date for the event is July 22nd at Civic Center Park. A Call for Art will be made, and the group will select the Artist's Art. The winner will Display the Art at the Madison Heights Public Library. Press Releases and PR will be available after Monday, April 3rd. 7. Pride Picnic (Arts and Pride) (Nagle, Geralds, Theodoroff, McBride) Jennifer Nagle gave an update about the event, the group is Looking to do June 4th 24th or 25th Civic Center Pavilion Across from the Lamphere Entrance. It would be 2PM-6PM. Jen will attend the next HREC meeting at 7PM. HREC/Pride Picnic. Will wait until the HREC Meeting until any decision is made. 8. Karaoke Night Fundraiser (Covert, Palazzolo, Nagle, Bliss) Put on Hold Indefinitely. Will take off the next meeting agenda. Madison Park Bowling and Bowl- A-Row. 9. Ground Interactive Murals in Parks and Schools A. Monarch Lifecycle at Rosie’s Park – Staff Liasion Owczarzak Reached out to Artist Eve Sandavol who informed him that she is not interested in repainting the mural because she feels it would be vandalized again. There is interest in going murals in other parks that are less subject to vandalism. B. Trotto new installations at Monroe and Wildwood: DPS will paint seal over it at the spring. These items are complete and will be removed from the next agenda. 10. Grant Opportunities A. Play Everywhere KaBoom Grant! - Finish painting the sidewalk - Spring 2023 (Owczarzak) This project is on hold until the Library Renovations are completed. There has been Some discuss to add Balloon art on sidewalk squares, Staff Liasion Owczarzak Will have to see how much paint is left. The board agreed to purchase a couple cans if needed. B. Progress Forward - Community Advisory Board (CAB) $5,000 January 20,2022 - Award Notice: Trail Tunes $2,500/Gala $1500 (Pumpkin Walk denied as violation of their governing rules prohibit marketing to children. - New Proposals (Geralds, Bliss, Rohrbach) 5,000 C. Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan Grant - from $5,000 - $1,000,000 Deadlines: Feb 15 for June Decision, May 15th for September Decision, August 15 for December Decision, November 15th for March Decision (Dombrowski, Nagle, Palazzolo, Theodoroff, Bliss). DELETE THIS ONE. Chair Dombrowski spoke with the foundation and they informed him that their organization does not fund construction grants. The board unanimously agreed that they will no longer be purposing this grant. D. Band Stand Grant (Dombrowski, Palazzolo, Theodoroff, Rohrbach, Bliss,) Chair Dombrowski suggested that the board should instead potentially pursue the MEDC (Michigan Economic Development Corporation Grant. It grants up to $75,000 in matching funds for crowd funding. The Board would have to crowd fund $50,000. To receive the matching fund. Councilor Rohrbach mentioned that they will pass along her contact from the MEDC. Motion by Dombroski second by Nagle to form a subcommittee for this grant. 11. Gala (Geralds, Bliss, Dombrowski, Palazzolo, Nagle) - Moved to Fall 2023 Looking at November 10th or 17th Gala Party as the reschedule date for the Gala. 12. Civic Center Complex Renovation - Art Installation Project (Bliss, McBride, Nagle, Basler, Covert) Staff Liaison Owczarzak is in the process of contacting those who were selected to obtain their art. The subcommittee will meet again once all of the Art has been collected/ NEW BUSINESS 13. Arts Board ID Badges (Staff Liaison Owczarzak) Board members will reach out to Adam if they are interested in obtaining on a badge. 14. Bike Rodeo (Dombroski, Covert, Nagle) Chair Dombrowski was asked by members of the Crime Commission to attend the Bike Rodeo and have an Art Craft available for the participants. The event is June 10th at Noon. ADJOURNMENT 8:40 PM Next Meeting will take place May 2nd @ 7PM. Executive Conference Room.
