REPORTS
Chief's Report
We are still in the hiring process and are still interviewing for Police Officers. We are making
some strides. We have 3 potential officers in the background stage currently. We are starting
SIU back up. We are going to have an overtime list for officers who want to work on their off-
duty time in SIU and we will provide training to them. We are also cracking down on the
marijuana operations in the city that we receive complaints about. Anyone who is not in
compliance with the ordinances, we can take away their non-conforming status. Once a non-
conforming status is removed from the business, a new marijuana facility cannot move into the
building. We have taken down 7 illegal operations recently. Too many plants, etc. We have
the Sgt of SIU, Code Enforcement and the Building Inspector all working together to investigate
when a complaint is received.
The K-9 Demonstration is set for September 9, 2023 at Rosie’s Park. Councilman Bliss asked if
we would be interested in moving the event to Civic Center Park because of Trail Tunes being
held at the park also. It will be up to the commission if we change the location. Chief’s
concerns would be the set up of trail tunes and barricades being set up during the K-9 event.
The Bike Rodeo / Open House will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 1
p.m. The DC and I are still in talks about having the open house also. If we do the tours, they
will be in shifts, starting a new one every 15 or 20 minutes. More to come on that later.
The town hall that we are wanting to host, we will need to pick a date in mid to late May so we
have time to come up with the questions / topics for the event. We talked about setting up a
questionnaire to post for residents to respond to and we will compile a list of questions/concerns
for the event.
We are interviewing for a school resource officer for Lamphere this week. There will be a
training in July and they will be starting with Lamphere in August when school starts
again. Madison district is still in the works because of financial issues.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Public Event - K-9 Demonstration
Chair person Covert stated that she feels if we move the location, there will be too much going
on at Civic Center for the day. People will be setting up for the trail tunes event and it will be
distracting for the dogs. A suggestion was made to make a flyer with both city events on it to
post and hand out letting residents know that there is the K9 Event and when you are done at
Rosies, head over to Civic Center Park for the Trail Tunes event.
MSP/Oakland County Prosecutor's Cyber Crime Event
Cyber crime event is moving to February 2024. We will have the prosecutor, the FBI and a
computer tech who works with the dark web. She is not available until Feb 2024.

1. A speaker from Homeland Security in regards to Human Trafficking
The Homeland Security Human Trafficking presentation is on April 27th, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. in
council chambers. Crime Commission along with the Police Department and Common Ground
are sponsoring this event. The information was shared on Facebook and the PD will share it on
their page as well.
2. Community members can ask questions and voice concerns to the Police Department
We will be setting up an online survey for residents to complete. Alternate Commissioner
Iaquinto has knowledge and is willing to set it all up for us. Chief said send to us and we will
figure out the logistics on it and get it out to the public to complete.
Motion for Ali to set up and handle the survey was made by Marentette and seconded by
Scott. Voting Yea: Covert, Roberts, Hilliard
NEW BUSINESS
1. Bike Rodeo on June 10, 2023
Commissioner Marentette volunteered for the bike registrations, Commissioner Hilliard will be
setting up the table for the crime commission.
Arts Board will be setting up a table with paint and stickers for the kids to decorate their helmets.
People want to bid to dunk the Chief in the tank. Have a donation jar for people to make
donations to dunk the Chief.
2. Discuss removal of members who fail to appear and notify of absences
Our alternate commissioner Monaghan has not attended a meeting in a year. If we would like to
have her removed from the Commission, we have to take a vote and send the recommendation to
city council to approve per the Chief. Per the by laws, if a member has 3 unexcused absences
that is ground for removal. The Chief will follow up with the city manager for the proper
procedure.
3. Discuss making Alexandria Iaquinto a full voting member
While discussing voting Alexandra Iaquinto in as a full voting member, the commission will
have to vote on the topic and present it to city council to approve.
Motion to vote Alexandra Iaquinto in as a full voting member made by Covert, seconded by
Hilliard. Voting Yea: Marentette, Roberts, Scott
4. Crime Commission ID Cards
Crystal will need photos of everyone emailed to her to get the cards printed.
