Motion to approve Minutes by Commissioner Fox, seconded by Commissioner Tutt. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC There was no one present wishing to speak at this time. REPORTS 2. Advice & Educate 1 01-24-22  Commissioner Fox is looking into Safe Talk training in September. Oakland County is conducting training events for anyone age 15 or up. Discussion about stigma behind people not calling suicide hotlines for fear of being sent to a hospital or mental hospital by default. Madison Heights Community Coalition wishes for Commissioner Fox to be a co-trainer at this event. Motion by Commissioner Fox, seconded by Commissioner Tutt to be a co-sponsor of the Safe Talk training by promoting the event on social media and/or by word of mouth, and/or by participating in the Safe Talk training event. Fundraising Note: Rebecca Chambliss is joining this subcommittee. Motion to adopt September 18, 2022 for plant/book sale to benefit HREC. Volunteers & Collaborations Getting ready for Diverse Voices Book Club. June 30 at 6:30 pm. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 6. Juneteenth Update Juneteenth Update: High school group doing a poetry slam as part of the opening ceremony. Vendors and food trucks are lined up. Flyers went out to schools to encourage a large family turn-out. HREC booth at Juneteenth - volunteer coverage needed - Jessica Tutt volunteered to work the booth the whole day. Seeking volunteers and donations right up until the day. Still need rib competition contestants. Please promote on our social media and personal social media pages. 7. Arts & Pride Event Update Arts & Pride Event Update: Park Pavilion B. Smaller event but Liberty Canabis is the event sponsor. Sweet Delight Ice Cream Truck Event is June 11 from 4 until dusk. Face painting, games, arts board, 2 01-24-22  library will also attend. Andy Levin will be there 4:30 - 5:00. Someone is reaching out to Haley Stevens to invite her as well. NEW BUSINESS Open meetings act reminder: Texts, facebook messages and emails - keep under quorum if they happen. Motion to approve Paige as Chair. Nom. Nickole Fox seconded by Jessica Tutt. Looking for a Vice Chair. Nickole Fox was nominated but is taking time to think about it. 8. HREC Recommendation for Gender Identification in Registration Procedures HREC members were made aware of a resident's question on whether the Recreation department's registration software had more options than male/female available. City Manager Marsh shared information that the Recreation department's program software does indeed have many options available for registrants to choose from to select gender. It should be noted that the software asks participants to select their gender when creating their profile, not when registering for events.
