Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting Madison Heights, Michigan August 01, 2023 A Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting was held on Tuesday, August 01, 2023 at 6:00 PM at Library - Breckenridge Room, 240 W. 13 Mile Rd. CALL TO ORDER Called to order at 6:01 pm by Chair Szymanski. ROLL CALL PRESENT Chair Paige Szymanski Nickole Fox Syed Murtaza Council Representative Emily Rohrbach Council Representative Alternate Quinn Wright Also Present: Heather Hames, staff liaison Motion to excuse absence of Rebecca Chambliss Emily Reetz. Motion made by Council Representative Rohrbach, Seconded by Murtaza. Voting Yea: Chair Szymanski, Fox, Murtaza, Council Representative Rohrbach, Council Representative Alternate Wright Motion passes. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Minutes of June 22, 2023 meeting. Motion made to approve the minutes by Council Representative Rohrbach, Seconded by Fox. Voting Yea: Chair Szymanski, Fox, Murtaza, Council Representative Rohrbach, Council Representative Alternate Wright Motion passes. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC No one present wishing to speak. COUNCIL UPDATE City Council has tabled the review of Ordinance 2194 indefinitely, pending further review. New charter language is ready to go to the residents on the November ballot. 1 The Disability Pride Month event went great on July 22 with over fifty people at the event to paint, and over forty people at the artist reception afterwards in the library. Volunteer recognition nominations are open so please nominate people by the deadline of August 25, 2023 on the city's website. Golf outing coming up on August 2023 and Beautification Awards will be recognized at the next City Council meeting. ROUND TABLE Equity concern brought up on whether or not residents in apartment complexes or senior homes receive the Recreation brochure in their mailboxes. Council Representative Rohrbach will inquire. Rib Event: Date is set for September 16, still in discussion about the location. Woodpile is on board as a sponsor. Native Plant Sale: September 17. Any volunteers for either event need to fill out the city's volunteer form which includes a background check. Jewish Bus Tour: Everything is all set for the tour, Chair Szymanski will bring water and refreshments for attendees. ADJOURNMENT Meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm by Chair Szymanski.
