Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting Madison Heights, Michigan April 18, 2024 A Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting was held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 6:00 PM at Library - Breckenridge Room, 240 W. 13 Mile Rd. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6:01 pm by Chair Szymanski. ROLL CALL PRESENT Chair Paige Szymanski Aaron Brown Nickole Fox Jessica Showers Alec Yu Council Representative Quinn Wright Also present, staff liaison Heather Hames. Motion to excuse Syed Murtaza-Rose and Council Representative Alternate Emily Rohrbach made by Yu, seconded by Brown. Motion passes unanimously. ABSENT Rebecca Chambliss Madison Student Delegate Colton Chambliss APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING 1. Minutes of Regular Meeting March 21, 2024 Motion to approve the minutes of March 21, 2024 made by Fox, seconded by Brown. Motion passes unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING 2. Minutes of Special Meeting of April 4, 2024 Motion to approve the minutes as corrected made by Brown, seconded by Yu. Motion passes unanimously. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC None 1 WORK PLAN UPDATES No further updates on Motorama and Smoke beyond what was decided at the special meeting on April 4, 2024. Motion to send a representative to the Juneteenth flag raising at City Hall on June 14, 2024 made by Brown, seconded by Showers. Motion passes unanimously. Book club attendance is increasing and book circulation is also increasing. Motion made by Brown, seconded by Showers to create and share social media posts on the following cultural and religious observances in May: Mental Health Awareness Month (by Yu), and Jewish Heritage Month, Asian and Pacific Islander Month, Cinco de Mayo, Orthodox Easter, and Memorial Day (by Szymanski). Motion passes unanimously. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 3. OCBA Mock Trial Program Motion by Yu to support the Oakland County Bar Association Mock Trial program and share as a resource to local schools, seconded by Brown, Motion passes unanimously. 4. Zoning Topics Motion to table this discussion made by Showers, seconded by Yu. Motion passes unanimously.
