Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting Madison Heights, Michigan July 23, 2025 A Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting was held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 6:30 PM at Library - Breckenridge Room, 240 W. 13 Mile Rd. CALL TO ORDER Chair Yu called the meeting to order at 6:46 p.m. ROLL CALL PRESENT Aaron Brown Kate Kapas Jessica Showers Alec Yu Council Representative Quinn Wright Council Representative Alternate Emily Rohrbach Also present, staff liaison Heather Hames Motion made by Wright to excuse Tanner Langdon and Ashley Strunk, Seconded by Showers. Motion passed unanimously. ABSENT Rebecca Chambliss Student Delegate (Madison) Colton Chambliss APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Minutes of June 12, 2025 Motion made by Showers to approve the minutes of June 12, 2025 as amended, Seconded by Kapas. Motion passed unanimously. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC No on present wishing to speak. COMMUNICATION BOARDS 2. Communication Boards Project Costs Motion made by Kapas to fund the Communication Boards in 8 parks for a total not to exceed $1,088, Seconded by Showers. Motion passed unanimously. COMMITTEE UPDATES 3. Juneteenth Summary Coloring books were very popular. Group discussed a table cover and/or tee shirts for future event outings. 4. Juneteenth Scholarship 1  Motion made by Brown to select Ah'Janae' Newsome as the recipient of the 2025 Juneteenth Scholarship Award, Seconded by Yu. Motion passes unanimously. 5. Arts and Pride Summary Discussed earlier planning, and putting into place either a threshold for weather events or a back-up date. This year's heat was extreme. 6. Adaptive Game Night Adaptive Game Night is July 29, 2025. Several games were purchased for the program that will afterwards be donated to the Library to add to their Library of Things collection. There is community interest in a similar program for youth ages. 7. Flex Space Meeting Room Policy Suggested edits will be forwarded to the Library Director. 8. Rev'n in the Heights Car registration will be by Google Form and all registrants will pay on the day of the event. Volunteers needed for the event, especially for parking, registration, and end of event clean-up. ADJOURNMENT Meeting was adjourned at 8:13 p.m. 2
