A Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting was held on Thursday, February 19, 2026
at 6:30 PM at Library - Breckenridge Room, 240 W. 13 Mile Rd.
CALL TO ORDER
Meeting called to order by Chair Yu at 6:35 pm.

Also Present Heather Hames, Staff Liaison
Motion made by Brown to excuse Kate Kapas, Seconded by Strunk. All ayes, motion passed
unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Minutes of January 15, 2026
Motion made by Langdon to approve the minutes of January 15, 2026, Seconded by
Attard. All ayes, motion passed unanimously.
MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
No one present wishing to speak.
ADAPTIVE PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES
2. a. Adaptive Game Night - March 25, 2026 - games and volunteers are all set for the
event.
Motion made by Strunk to spend $50 for light refreshments for the event, Seconded by
Brown. All ayes, motion passed unanimously.
b. Community Resources website - no update.

COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS
3. a. Arts and Pride - vendor form reviewed and ready to open to the public shortly.
Sponsorship letter ready in the next week and Arts and Pride committee members will
begin sharing sponsor letters with the community. QR codes and PayPal buttons nearly
ready for vendors, sponsors and yard signs.
b. Lantern Festival - tentative date of May 30, 2026. Applying for the Civic Center Park
Bandshell for the event.
c. Revin' in the Heights - looking for vendors. Date is September 19, 2026.
JUNETEENTH SCHOLARSHIP
4. Juneteenth Scholarship
Motion by Attard to fund the 2026 Juneteenth Scholarship amount at $619, approve the
application with changes to dollar amount and opening application to both high school
seniors and current college students, with the time period to run from February 20, 2026
through May 20, 2026, Seconded by Langdon. All ayes, motion passed unanimously.
NOVELS AND NEIGHBORS BOOK CLUB
5. a. Meeting dates and times
b. Title selections for upcoming meetings
Motion made by Brown to change the Novels and Neighbors book club meeting time to
6:30 pm to begin with June meeting, and set the meeting dates and titles selected as
listed below, Seconded by Strunk. All ayes, motion passed unanimously
June 9, 2026 - Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid (Party and Book Discussion)
August 11, 2026 - Good People by Patmeena Sabit
October 13, 2026 - Holly Jolly Diwali by Sonya Lalli
November 12, 2026 - Online Only - Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng
December 8, 2026 - Love You A Latke by by Amanda Elliot
POLICY REVIEW - LIBRARY
6. a. Exhibit, Display, Artwork, and Handouts Policy
Reviewed - no changes to recommend.
