Madison Environmental Commission Meeting Minutes April 27, 2017 1. Call to order by Chairperson Stephan Stocker at Hartley Dodge 2. Announcement of meeting notice Statement of Compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act: Read by Stephan Stocker, Chairperson. This meeting of the Madison Environmental Commission complies with the Open Public Meetings Act. (P.L. 1975 c. 231) Notice of this meeting was provided to the Madison Eagle, Daily Record, Star Ledger, and to tapintomadison.com. Copies of this notice are posted on the bulletin board at the main entrance of Hartley Dodge Memorial and were made available to the general public. 3. Present: Stephan Stocker, Trina Mallik, Brooke Winters. 4. Absent: Claire Whitcomb, Jeff Gertler, Ellen Kranefuss, Mary Ellen Kapalo, Brian Monaghan 5. Events:  Trina provided a detailed update on the Madison Green Forum to take place June 14 at 7:30pm at the Community House o Stephan has two easels we can use o Stephan sent a lot of handouts and brochures to Trina already that can be distributed at the Green Forum; He reminded us of the lawn care one about cut it and leave it; organic lawn care and composting; Claire’s on pollinators; Strike Force’s on native trees and invasives o We should encourage guests to visit MRC’s 200’ x 50’ pollinator garden with 50 milkweeds in the middle o Stephen noted the Garden Club, Rutgers Masters Gardeners Program, Stephen McAuliffe and he designed the Inside the Walls St. Pauls pollinator meadow; the Central Avenue School pollinator garden is nationally acclaimed! o Stephen suggested that we have speakers speak to the whole group with PPT, wine and cheese before breakouts  Stephen is putting in 500 plants on ______ along with Rutgers Masters Gardeners, College NJ, three water ambassadors from around the State, YMCA, and High school students  Stephen spoke at St. Vincents Martyr Schools to about 425 students about how they can save the environment and what the MEC is doing. He suggests giving  the students a survey on what they can do for the environment. Sister Noreen there reads a verse from Pope Francis’ encyclical on climate change every day!  On April 29th the Green Fair will be held at the Madison Public Library and across the way at the Y, along with their Healthy Kids event; Judy Honohan will have her game at the Y; Stephen will be at the MPL 6.
