Madison Environmental Commission Meeting Minutes May 26 2022 A meeting of the Madison Environmental Commission was called to order by Chairperson Claire Whitcomb at approximately 7:35pm. Present : Claire Whitcomb, Bridget Daley, Ann Huber, Kirsten Wallenstein Absent: Brian Monaghan, Stephan Stocker, Trina Mallik, Ellen Kranefuss Guests : Mary Ellen Hennessy Jones, Mery Nadiele (Drew GIS student), Lisa Jordan, Cassaundra Sledge, Meredith Junes Climate action -- Mary Ellen Hennessy Jones & Kirsten Wallenstein · The Ad Hoc Committee spoke with dept heads around: 1. capital planning 2. non-capital planning 3. decarbonization goals · 2 meetings have occurred: o 1 with Jim Burnet on decarbonization & maximizing energy o Capital meeting last week with a number of people, discussed near-term projects propoesed (2-4 years) and need srategy/plan for 10-25 years o core initiatives to be ID’d Lawn mowing reduction o Mowing master plan + master plan for field maintenance o Cut it & leave it brochure o Sustainable Jersey guidelines stipulate 4 things, per Mary Ellen: Integrated pest management (IPM), water consumption, efficient landscape (mowing) & something else o Cutting down on mowing could free up time for things like trail maintenance, bench repairs, & other things Bat houses Student / Girl Scout in Madison is encouraging them; table at May Day is suggested Eco garden tour: proposed for fall Meeting adjourned at 8:45pm.
