MADISON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Regular Meeting – December 11, 2012 Attending: Co-Chairmen John Solu and Dana Napurano, Members John Forte; Joseph Longo, Alberta Marcy; Carmine Toto, Ron Poeter, and William VanRyzin; Recording Secretary Laurie Hagerich. Absent: Member Janet Foster, Sign & Façade Liaison Kathy Solu; Council Liaison Donald Links. The meeting was called to order as an open public meeting at 7:45 p.m., in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act. The November 13, 2012, meeting minutes were considered and on motion made, seconded and carried, were approved as written. Follow Up: TCC applications update: There were no pending TCC applications in the Historic Districts. For Action: Sign and Façade applications: New signage for SanFrancisco, formerly SanFrancisco Mercantile, was reviewed, consisting of a mounted sign and front and rear blade signs. The color, design and placement of the signage was acceptable to MHPC. NJ Transit Wall repair: NJ Transit is making repairs to the retaining wall on Kings Road and has asked MHPC to review the coloration of the concrete mix to match as closely as possible the existing concrete. The sample mock-ups will be moved to the Train Station and Commission members were asked to look at the samples and thereafter email their comments to Mr. Solu, who will relay the information to the Borough Engineer by the end of the week. Mr. Solu will also convey to Mr. Vogel MHPC’s comment that the replacement concrete should be the same as what was there previously. For Discussion: 2012 Accomplishments/Annual Report: Mr. VanRyzin will be working on the 2012 Annual Report and asked for comments on the content and format of the 2011 Annual Report. After discussion, it was decided the format of the 2011 Report would be used. Mr. VanRyzin will bring this report to the next meeting which can be marked up. Members should let Mr. VanRyzin know of any extra activities or efforts they have been involved in for the Borough and for historic preservation, so that these can be included in the 2012 Report. Historic 1921 Fox-Ahrens Fire Truck: Mr. Longo reported he has received a Certificate of Eligibility for the fire truck to be designated an historic resource. Friends of Geraldine can now proceed to make application to Morris County Preservation Trust for a matching grant. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:20 p.m. Laurie C.
