MADISON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Regular Meeting – October 13, 2015 Attending: Co-Chairmen John Solu and Janet Foster; Members David Luber and Carmine Toto; Recording Secretary Laurie Hagerich. Absent: Members John Forte, Joseph Longo, Alberta Marcy, William VanRyzin and Margaret Weisgerber; and Council Liaison Patrick Rowe. The meeting was called to order as an open public meeting at 7:35 p.m. in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act. The September 8, 2015, minutes were considered. By unanimous consent the minutes were approved as written. Follow Up: TCC applications update: There were no new TCC applications. Sign and Façade Applications update: There were no new Sign and Façade applications. Ms. Hannah Dickson Arnstein, stopped in to say that while she was an art student at Drew University, she designed the illustration of Waverly Place used on HPC’s letterhead. She asked whether she could be given credit for the design on the letterhead. Mr. Solu and Ms. Foster will take this request under consideration and will contact Ms. Arnstein when the design is updated. Follow Up: Bottle Hill Historic District Re-Paving Project: Mr. Solu explained the project is nearly complete and the cost has come in at a considerable savings under the budgeted amount. In recognition of the 10th Anniversary of the Bottle Hill Historic District, the residents would like to see the excess funds used to purchase historically appropriate lighting fixtures and new signage to be placed at the Central/Ridgedale intersection calling attention to the Bottle Hill Historic District. Michael Piano, Electric Superintendent, has recommended a style of light fixture that is currently used in town and is easily maintained. Ms. Foster will draft a letter to the Borough asking that funding be made available from the savings on the paving work so that the light fixtures can be installed as soon as possible. MHPC is very pleased that some of the blue stone was saved and re-located to enhance the General Anthony Wayne House, an important 18th Century landmark in the Historic District. Bottle Hill Historic District: 173 Ridgedale Avenue at Planning Board: Several alternate positions for the 3d house closest to the pond were suggested to the developer which are being considered. The matter will be continued before the Planning Board on October 20, so that new site plans can be prepared. It was noted that letters were sent from MHPC with comments and recommendations on the three matters reviewed at the September meeting.
