MADISON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Regular Meeting – November 10, 2015
Attending: Co-Chairmen John Solu and Janet Foster; Members David Luber, Carmine
Toto and Margaret Weisgerber; Recording Secretary Laurie Hagerich. Absent: Members
John Forte, Joseph Longo, Alberta Marcy and William VanRyzin; and Council Liaison
Patrick Rowe.
The meeting was called to order as an open public meeting at 7:35 p.m. in accordance
with the Open Public Meetings Act. The October 13, 2015, minutes were considered.
By unanimous consent the minutes were approved as written.
For Discussion:
Ms. Foster agreed to contact Ms. Hannah Dickson Arnstein about the possibility of
designing a new illustration for HPC’s letterhead.
Several members have terms ending the end of the year and will be replaced with new
appointments. There was discussion of some possible new members, who will be
contacted to determine their interest in serving on the Commission.
Follow Up:
TCC applications update:
There were no new TCC applications. Mr. Solu mentioned that he was notified that a
party was interested in property at 66 Lathrop Avenue. Mr. Solu will contact the party to
answer his inquiries.
Sign and Façade Applications update:
There were no new Sign and Façade applications.
For Action:
Develop 2015 Annual Report Action Items:
This matter will be taken up at the December meeting when Mr. VanRyzin is present.
For Discussion:
Bottle Hill Historic District Road Construction Project:
The project is complete, including repaving and lining of the street. Ms. Weisgerber
mentioned that many of the requests of the Friends of Bottle Hill Historic District
regarding parking and other issues at Sumerhill Park were not put in place, the speed
limit was not reduced to 25 MPH as requested and there is still significant truck traffic.
The Borough has not yet made its decision on funding for the historically appropriate
lighting fixtures and new signage.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
