Minutes of September 18, 2014 Meeting
The Shade Tree Management Board held its regular monthly meeting on September 18, 2014 at 7:00 pm, in the second floor
Trustee Room of Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison, New Jersey.
Call to Order
Gene Cracovia called the meeting to order and Nancy Bruce read the Sunshine Law for compliance with the Open Public
Meetings Act.
Present: Gene Cracovia, Vince Licari, Penny Garman, Lauren Hagerstrom, Christine Hammitt, Steve Miller and Nancy Bruce.
Absent: David Maines, Paul Allocco, Alan Andreas and Mike Kopas.
Minutes
The Board approved the (corrected – a spelling error) August 21, 2014 minutes.
The Board addressed the following items of business:
Budget Report
The year-to-date expended Maintenance Services total is $54,072.25 of $82,550 or 65%. Vince proposed, Nancy seconded
and the Board voted to approve moving $7800 from Professional Services to Maintenance Services.
Council Liaison Report
No report.
Public Comments and Correspondence
Alan received a phone call from Mr. Gary Haydu, the attorney representing the 34 Green homeowner. He stated the
homeowners removed the borough planted tree and replaced it with a red glory maple because they preferred that
species. He offered to pay for the tree removed.
A Pomeroy Road homeowner asked Mike for advice regarding screening next to a house that had been demolished.
Borough Tree Maintenance
The Baptist Church oak on Cook needs to be removed.
Twenty of the 105 trees planted in 2010 have died.
One hundred forty-one trees have been removed this year.
Pine Tree, Durwood and Wayne Blvd. need pruning.
Penny will assign windshield survey quadrants with tree placements. Members will please confirm the openings noting
sidewalks and wires. Approximately 25 trees will planted per quadrant.
TCC
Ray Codey, Fran Boardman, Gene, Alan and Mike met and decided:
Fran will issue a permit after the submission of proof of tree protection with a picture. Steve can provide an Excel
spreadsheet of street trees for Fran’s use for the permits.
The need for proof of public tree protection for a private construction permit will be added to the STMB ordinance.
Nancy, Penny and Vince will reevaluate the STMB ordinance in relation to TCC.
Gene will check for comments from the STMB in reference to the 46 Pomeroy Road application.
FMST
Landmark Trees information, tree request sign-ups and baby Pin Oaks will be available at Bottle Hill Day.
Parks Advisory Committee
No report.
New Business
The deer fence is finished.
Gene, Vince and Mike have started preliminary discussions about electric line pruning and the danger of trees dying.
The Board adjourned at 8:25 pm.
