SHADE TREE MANAGEMENT BOARD Borough of Madison Madison, New Jersey 07940 Minutes of December 18, 2014 Meeting The Shade Tree Management Board held its regular monthly meeting onDecember 18, 2014 at 8:00 am, in the second floor Committee Room of Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison, New Jersey. Call to Order Alan Andreas called the meeting to order and read the Sunshine Law for compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act. Present: Alan Andreas, Vince Licari, Penny Garman, Christine Hammitt, Steve Miller, Nancy Bruce, Gene Cracovia, , and Lauren Hagerstrom. Also present: David Maines, Paul Allocco. Absent: Mike Kopas. Pledge of Allegiance Minutes The Board approved the November 20, 2014 minutes. The Board addressed the following items of business: Budget Report The year-to-date expended Maintenance Services total is $90,608.75of $91,735 (99%). The remaining balance is $1,055. Council Liaison Report No report. Public Comments and Correspondence The homeowner at 20 Fen Court dislikes her Willow Oak because it holds its leaves longer than most trees. A neighbor’s tree next to 121 Greenwood Avenue is a potential hazard. Alan will send a letter to the neighbor consistent with Chapter 145.1 of the Property Maintenance Code of the Borough of Madison. Borough Tree Maintenance Year-to-date, 145 trees have been removed. Based on requests, 13 trees need to be pruned. Three trees on Main Street will probably die as a result of the construction of the new Investor’s Bank. TCC No TCC or Planning Board applications were reviewed. FMST The Friends is considering augmenting the spring tree planting with a fall tree planting and increasing reforestation in the MRC. Parks Advisory Committee In January, Troop 7 will clear the groundcover on the trail in Summerhill Park that leads to DeHart. In February, the Dog Committee will go to Council to propose the new Dog Park in Memorial Park. New Business Rutger’s Tree Day will occur on January 6, 2015 at the County College of Morris. Alan will submit the following names for appointment by Council: Chair Alan Andreas Vice-Chair Steve Miller Treasurer Gene Cracovia Secretary Christine Hammitt Penny will submit the spring planting list by December 31, 2014. Requests will be filled first followed by replacements (possibly in the fall planting). Mike and Vince will confirm the assortment. The Friends will pursue the Elm planting.
