SHADE TREE MANAGEMENT BOARD Borough of Madison Madison, New Jersey 07940 Minutes of January 15, 2015 Reorganization Meeting The Shade Tree Management Board held its Reorganization Meeting on January 15, 2015 in the second Floor Committee Room of Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison, New Jersey. Call to Order Alan Andreas called the Reorganization Meeting to order at 8 am and read the Sunshine Law for compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act. Present: Alan Andreas, Mike Kopas, Christine Hammitt, Steve Miller, Nancy Bruce, Lauren Hagerstrom and Gene Cracovia. Also present: David Maines. Absent: Penny Garman and Vince Licari. Reorganization and Election of Officers The Board voted to approve the following slate of officers for 2015: Chair Alan Andreas Vice-Chair Steve Miller Treasurer Gene Cracovia Secretary Christine Hammitt The Board approved the following 2015 schedule of regular monthly meetings at 8:00am, in the second floor Committee Room of Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison, NJ: January 15 (Reorganization + Regular Meeting) February 19 March 19 April 16 May 21 June 18 July 16 August 20 September 17 October 15 November 19 December 17 The Board then held its regular monthly meeting. Call to Order Alan Andreas called the meeting to order and read the Sunshine Law for compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act. Present: Alan Andreas, Mike Kopas, Christine Hammitt, Steve Miller, Nancy Bruce, Lauren Hagerstrom and Gene Cracovia. Also present: David Maines. Absent: Penny Garman and Vince Licari. Pledge of Allegiance Minutes The Board approved the December 18, 2014 minutes. The Board addressed the following items of business: Budget Report The 2015 budget has not been approved. A five percent increase was requested. Council Liaison Report No report. Public Comments and Correspondence The trees in the circle on Academy are privately owned. On Main Street, at the corner of Alexander, in front of the new Investor’s Bank, one tree was removed. The sidewalk was lowered 24” which will kill a second tree. Alan will request their replacement with Redspire Pears. There was no room to protect the public trees at a home under construction at the corner of Loantaka and Madison Avenue.Alan will communicate the Board’s soil compaction concerns that will have damaged the trees. Borough Tree Maintenance Status The spring planting list has been submitted. The STMB will request an estimate, which Mike will present to DDC,to shave the roots and increase the size of the sidewalks on Waverly Place. TCC Two applications were reviewed. FMST The STMB unanimously supports two Friends’ proposals: • To plant trees in the fall on one street ($5,000), working with the NJ Tree Foundation. Penny will choose the trees. • To planttrees ($6,000) off Danforth Road. Parks Advisory Committee No report. Old Business A proposed expansion to the Land Use Code 145.1 (private construction on private land) will be discussed with Ray Codey.
