SHADE TREE MANAGEMENT BOARD Borough of Madison Madison, New Jersey 07940 Minutes of April 16, 2015 Meeting The Shade Tree Management Board held its regular monthly meeting on April 16, 2015 in the second Floor Committee Room of Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison, New Jersey. Call to Order Alan Andreas called the meeting to order and read the Sunshine Law for compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act. Present: Alan Andreas, Nancy Bruce, Penny Garman, Christine Hammitt, Steve Miller, Lauren Hagerstrom, Gene Cracovia, Mike Kopas and Vince Licari. Also present: Paul Allocco and David Maines Pledge of Allegiance Minutes The Board approved the amended March 19, 2015 minutes. The Board addressed the following items of business: Budget Report Council passed the 2015 budget of $108,194.20. Last month’s expenses included: $4970 (Tree King removals); $4468 (Honor Tree maintenance); $235.95 (printing). Council Liaison Report No report. Alan will submit a quarterly update. Public Comments and Correspondence A Wayne Boulevard resident requested an elevation of the trees. Borough Tree Maintenance Status Thirty-three trees were removed and training-pruning has been completed. Spring Tree Planting Spring planting will begin when the trees are delivered on April 27. TCC Three cases were reviewed in April. FMST Chris Schorr was elected the new president. Five hundred seedlings will be planted by the New Jersey Tree Foundation in the MRC deer exclosure on April 20. Free tree seedlings will be available to Madison residents on Monday, April 20 as part of the New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign. Parks Advisory Committee Vince will order the two Garden Club replacement cherry trees planned for James Park. The Dog Park plan is on hold, perhaps for another 6 months, awaiting a “Letter of Intent”. The MRC Passive Recreation Ad Hoc Committee may merge with Parks. Old Business Vince and Mike will assess the trees affected by the upcoming Ridgedale Avenue construction. The Borough will pay for removals and replacements. Twenty trees will be affected by the Ridgedale Avenue construction. A native, pink flower Eastern Redbud is the proposed replacement. New Business The Board has changed the May 21 meeting to 7pm in the Trustee’s Room. Arbor Day is set for May 2. A highlight of the celebration is the 30th Tree City USA award. Mike has reviewed the Landmark Tree nominations. The Board adjourned at 9:22 am. Minutes submitted by Christine Hammitt.
