CITY OF MANISTEE PARKS AND BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION MINUTES Thursday, October 20, 2011 5: 00 P.M. Members Present: Mark Tomaszewski, Priscilla Rulison, Ed Teglar, John Rozga, Darci Scott Members Absent: Ben Kubiak Also Present: Gary Niesen, Kathie Boyle, City of Manistee Guest: Lynne Reinhardt, Friends of Beautification A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks and Beautification Commission was held on Thursday, October 2nd 20, 2011 at City Hall — Floor Conference Room. Meeting was called to order by Chair Ed Teglar at 5: 00 p.m. Motion by Tomaszewski, second by Rozga to accept the September 15, 2011 minutes and placed on file. Motion carried. Guests Presenter Lynne Reinhardt representing the Friends of Beautification attended meeting to talk about the Butterfly Garden being decorated for the Victorian Sleighbell Festival. In the past, Christmas trees have been decorated adding to the attraction of the area. Reinhardt has a volunteer that will decorate the trees if the commission approves. Scott will contact Millers Produce to order 3- 4 trees to be delivered to the Butterfly Garden before Victorian Sleighbell Festival for decorating. Reinhardt asked if the City was going to have the butterfly shrink wrapped again this year as it protects it from the elements as well as vandalism. Boyle will get with Garber. OLD BUSINESS Correspondence Secretary— Tabled. Criteria Form— questions to be asked of presenters: Cost Maintenance Theme/ Purpose  How long will project last Who' s project Very detailed proposal / Real cost of the project Long term commitment Safety/ ADA How long to complete project Teglar' s" Letter to Editor" asking residents to become more involved and join our commission tabled until February/ March 2012. Morton Park— Teglar will meet/call the City Manager regarding plans he was given from Rozga. Community Recreation Five Year Plan - Members reviewed plan / Teglar will contact Denise Blakeslee with changes. Arthur Street— Why city owned w/lease provision? Manmade Lake— add verbiage regarding Father Marquette Morton Park& Lighthouse Park— add Disc Golf Morton Park& Fifth Avenue— add Shuffleboard Courts 12th A public hearing will be held December @ 6: 00 p.m. on the Community Recreation Five Year Plan 2012- 2017. Teglar encouraged all members to attend. NEW BUSINESS Members discussed additional walkways to beaches— lots of great comments from the community. Motion by Rozga, second by Scott to adjourn at 6: 45 p. m. Next meeting date — Public Hearing on Community Recreation Five Year 12th, Plan will be December 2011 at 6: 00 p.m. at City Hall —Meeting will be held at City Hall—Council Chambers.
