City of Manistee Parks and Beautification Commission Minutes Thursday, July 16, 2015 5:00 P.M Members Present: Mark Tomaszewski, Roger Zielinski, Lynn Vasquez, Erin Pontiac, Ed Tegler, Danielle Wilkosz, and Jennifer Teller. Unexcused: Also Present: Jeff Mikula A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks and Beautification Commission was held on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at City Hall 2nd floor conference room. Meeting was called to order by Acting Chair Lynn Vasquez at 5:06 p.m. Approval of Minutes – Motion by Vasquez, second by Tegler to June 18, 2015 minutes and place on file after replacing found with fund. Motion approved. Public Hearing: None Citizen/public comment: None Correspondence: None Committee Reports: Old Business: County Recreation Plan: Pontiac reported on the county recreation plan – there was a low attendants for public forum scheduled on June 30th at 6:00 in Manistee High School Commons area. There was brainstorming done for what citizens would like to see for the county Recreation areas. Round A Bout: The proposed flag project in on the agenda for next council meeting. Park Tour: Mikula will schedule to have the park tour in September and he will invite council members. Liability of a Parks Commissioner: Mikula will invite Saylor, the city’s attorney, to the August commission meeting to explain what the commissioners’ rights are and their legal stance on being on the commission. Answer questions we might have. New Business: Electing positions for July to June 2016: Chair – Vasquez nominated Tegler seconded by Pontiac. Motion approved Vice Chair – Tegler nominated Pontiac seconded by Wilkosz. Motion approved Secretary – Pontiac nominated Wilkosz seconded by Tegler. Websites and Apps for the city: Wilkosz expressed concern the information on apps and websites are not up to date and don’t include everything the city parks and beaches have to offer. Wilkosz will contact the visitor’s center to have information added. Mikula’s updates: First Street Beach Park has been completed – need ideas for the old rocket park location. There has been discussion that old rocket shouldl be auctioned off and the money received from that we would like to stay within the parks department. The city will be killing weeds and readdress issues/concerns in the spring at Sands Park. Ordered 12 new swim boey and reusing the one they have. The seaweed issues are being dealt with as they come up. 24 new picnic tables were divided up through the parks. City will be pouring new sidewalks and installing new grills soon at 5th Ave. beach. Vasquez will be giving the Parks Commission report to the city council on August 18th.
