CITY OF MANISTEE PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES Thursday, February 20, 2020 Members Present: Kipp Pomranky, Tom Oele, Lani Rozga, Tim O’Connor, Tom Swedenborg, Mark Tomaszewski Members Excused: None Also Present: Kathie Boyle, Mickey McCann– City of Manistee A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at City Hall 2nd floor conference room. Meeting was called to order by Chair Rozga at 5:30 p.m. Approval of Agenda Motion by Swedenborg, second by O’Connor to approve agenda. All in favor. Public Hearing None Approval of Minutes Motion by Swedenborg, second by Pomranky to approve January 16, 2020. All in Favor. Correspondence 2020 “Report to Council” meeting schedule presented to Rozga. Committee Reports None Old Business Review RFP Beach Concession Stands - One bid each was received. Both concession stand bids will be submitted to City Council for approval. ➢ First Street will continue with council approval as in the past contract - Karl Reed. ➢ Fifth Avenue with council approval will have new vendor - Kendra Remai. First Street Tennis Courts Rehabilitation - At their February 18, 2020 meeting City Council awarded the contract to Tennis Courts Unlimited in the amount of $25,600.00. Project to begin when weather permits. New Business 2020 Capital Improvement Plans – Budget due to financial director on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Update on Riverwalk Issues – The City seeking bonds for repair. Manmade Lake Metal Post Removal – In the past as they were exposed DPW has removed, will check in spring. Items Discussed Pomranky will check with new vendor at 5th Avenue Concession Stand in June to discuss any issues or concerns she may have; other members are also encouraged to stop by and check how operations are going. Commission believes Concession Stand contract should include “following Health Department guidelines and responsibility for the defibrillators”. New vendor at 5th Avenue should be advertised i.e.., City Facebook, City website and News Advocate. Members wishing to add to any items to agenda please contact Boyle to let her know the week before scheduled meeting. Tetherball – McCann investigating costs to purchase industrial ball/rope. Discussed locations to include Duffy Park, 1st Street and 5th Avenue beaches. Would like to see 2 poles at each location 12’ for adults and 10’ for children. Members to decide exact what location at each park. Pickle Ball Courts have been installed in Manistee Township. What is long term goal for 5th Avenue tennis courts. Mikula to update commission on Riverwalk repairs. Motion by O’Connor, second by Swedenborg to adjourn at 6:00 p.m. All in favor.
