Old Business
Disc Golf – Tom Oele updated the commission on the proposed disc golf. An exploratory
committee of Oele and Pomranky was created. Ole recently met with Mikula to discuss options.
A different location was suggested by Mikula (map provided), area is located at First Street Beach
South Lakeshore Road by Dog Park. Oele explained how course would be laid out and the positive
impact this would bring our community. Disc Golf is a wonderful sport that can be family
orientated and kid friendly. Ole has been is contact with two professional contractors and will set
up a meeting to have them come to the site. Members request that discussion/correspondence
be held with property owners on Harbor Drive to be aware of what may be going on behind their
property. Presentation of project to City Council is also requested. Consensus of commission
project is very excited with a “let’s get going” consensus. Projected date would be to try to have
the course up and ready by Memorial Day 2021. “Thanks Ole for a great presentation”.
New Business
Review/Update Bylaws – a sub-committee was formed including O’Connor & Rozga to update/
review our bylaws. Will discuss at our next meeting any proposed updates. All members are to
review and bring comments to our next meeting. Bylaws have not been updated since 2009.
Volunteer Group – 5th Avenue – Brooks has scheduled volunteers to paint a piece of playground
equipment, they will be cleaning and painting the monkey bars. – McCann will purchase paint.
Assigning Members their own park – Asking each member to choose a park to monitor.
Social Media Presence – “Adopt A Park” is a great program but we need to utilize social media
to get volunteers. Ideas – creating a Facebook page letting residents know our resources and how
they can become involved.
Parks Commission Statement – A sub-committee of O’Connor, Brooks and Rozga will review on
a proposed Parks Commission Statement, members are encouraged to review and make
recommendations.
Items Discussed
Mayor Zielinski stated the City Council appreciates all we do. This summer has been a very
different summer season than any other year due to Covid. The new normal has been to utilize
all our parks which received a lot of use this year.
Rozga will check with her “Adopt A Park” group if they are still interested in Manmade Lake area.
O’Connor requested getting permission to use the new city logo for the commission. Boyle to
check with Mikula to which logo would be appropriate.
Motion by Brooks, second by Pomranky to adjourn at 6:40 p.m. All in favor.
Next meeting date – October 21, 2020 @ 5:30 p.m. in the 3rd floor Council Room
at City Hall
