CITY OF MANISTEE PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES Wednesday, October 21, 2020 Members Present: Tom Oele, Lani Rozga, Tim O’Connor, Tom Swedenborg, Mark Tomaszewski, Ron Pomranky Members Excused Bob Brooks Present: Kathie Boyle, Mickey McCann, City of Manistee Sam Coram A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Meeting was called to order by Chair Tim O’Connor at 5:33 p.m. Approval of Agenda Motion by Rozga, second by Swedenborg to approve agenda. All in favor. Public Hearing N/A Citizen/Public Comments N/A Approval of Minutes Motion by O’Connor, second by Tomaszewski to approve October 1, 2020 minutes and place on file. All in Favor. Correspondence None Committee Reports None Old Business Disc Golf – A professional disc golf designer met with several members at First Street Beach on October 5th, 2020 to walk proposed 18 course layout. Layout includes hole # 9 which will overlook 1st Street Beach (what a view). Proposed area does need clearing from small saplings, grapevines, etc. will leave all hardwood. Oele will chair volunteer group to begin clearing debris. Plan is to schedule a work bee next month. Swedenborg and McCann will contact the Manager’s office to schedule a City Council meeting or work-study to inform/update council of this project. McCann will coordinate with Mikula and DPW for assistance. Motion by Swedenborg, second by O’Connor to proceed with plans/fund raising for disc golf. All in Favor. Review/Update Bylaws – O’Connor presented a power point that he and Rozga worked on with updates/changes to our Bylaws. Each line item was reviewed by all members. Several changes were requested. O’Connor to make changes and email to members for them to review and discuss at next meeting. Parks Commission Mission Statement – O’Connor read our proposed mission statement. Consensus of members to move forward. Commission will need to check with City Hall on what steps to take to incorporate our statement. Assign Individual Members A Park - Members volunteered to choose a park to inspect and report back to the commission any compliments or complaints. O’Connor will forward list to Boyle for file. Members Discussion Swedenborg asked about a park on Oak & Water by the John Hart Building. Is this a city park or private and is there anything the parks department could do to clean up the area, needs maintenance. Rozga has been checking the internet for any grants that may become available for the upkeep/new in the Parks. Motion by Rozga, second by Tomaszewski to adjourn at 7:15 p.m. All in favor.
