CITY OF MANISTEE PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES Thursday, November 19, 2020 Members Present: Tom Oele, Lani Rozga, Tim O’Connor, Tom Swedenborg, Bob Brooks, Ron Pomranky Members Excused Mark Tomaszewski Present: Kathie Boyle, Mickey McCann, City of Manistee A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. by zoom and tele-conferencing. Meeting was called to order by Chair Tim O’Connor at 5:35 p.m. Approval of Agenda Motion by Rozga, second by O’Connor to approve agenda. All in favor. Public Hearing N/A Citizen/Public Comments N/A Approval of Minutes Motion by O’Connor, second by Pomranky to approve November 19, 2020 minutes and place on file. All in Favor. Correspondence Jen Teller contacted O’Connor regarding removal of a tree limb at First Street Beach area. Committee Reports Members discussed how to present their information on their assigned park. Old Business Disc Golf –. Oele updated the commission on where we’re at in the process. Next step present project to City Council at their work session. O’Connor to contact City Manager’s office on how to proceed to get on agenda. After work session presentation we will move forward for approval at City Council meeting. Consensus to appoint Oele as spokesperson. Schedule work bee -between now and spring 2021. Three areas need to be cleared of debris, Oele will set up schedule. Many citizens/businesses are excited and interested in becoming involved. Discussed cost and equipment to raise - $15,000 should cover both. Covid in 2020 has brought more interest in parks across the state – we should explore and expand however funding is needed. Revenue Plans – charging for parking and rentals – Empire currently charges for parking at their beaches. Beach Concession Stands closed for the season. Mission Statement - Any changes be sent to O’Connor and then proceed to City Council. New Business Approval By-Laws – O’Connor has made requested changes and will contact the City Managers office on how to proceed. Logo Approval – Members chose logo for the shirts O’Connor is purchasing from Simply Stichin for our members. Fees for Rentals and Parking - Items Discussed 2021 Meeting Dates – 3rd Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the 2nd floor conference room. Ludington put up a gate at their pier brake-wall to use in in bad weather preventing citizens on the pier– is that something we could do. Update Morton’s Park – let’s work on bringing life back to the park. Porta potties are a mess. Monthly reporting to the City Council. Oele created a facebook page called “Friends of Manistee Parks”. Motion by Swedenborg, second by Rozga to adjourn at 7:00 p.m. All in favor.
