CITY OF MANISTEE PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES Thursday, February 18, 2021 Members Present: Lani Rozga, Tim O’Connor, Tom Swedenborg, Bob Brooks, Ron Pomranky Members Excused Mark Tomaszewski, Tom Oele Present: Kathie Boyle, Mickey McCann - City of Manistee A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. remotely as authorized by the Open Meetings Act (MCL 15.263a). Meeting was called to order by Chair Tim O’Connor at 5:40 p.m. Approval of Agenda Motion by Swedenborg, second by Rozga to approve agenda. All in favor. Public Hearing N/A Citizen/Public Comments N/A Approval of Minutes Motion by Brooks, second by O’Connor to approve January 21, 2021 minutes and place on file. All in Favor. Correspondence None Committee Reports None Old Business Disc Golf Funding/Safety – Rozga working on a Consumer Energy Grant still in need of documents and information from the City to complete, would like to push through as soon as possible. Rozga to keep O’Connor posted on progress. Oele will update commission with all information at our March 18, 2021 meeting. An escrow account will be set up at City Hall to accept monetary donations for the course. Projected goal - $25,000. Company sponsorship will be available and would include company name, etc. this information will be placed on the pad. Need to set a timeline on fund raising. Parking Fees and Rental of Park Space – O’Connor requested a subcommittee be formed. Reservation system – O’Connor working on a software system and should have in place for this season. Need to decide what parks can be reserved. Will present to City Council once all details are worked through. New Business Social Media Communication – Commission has some concerns that information get relayed correctly to the public. Refer questions to Oele. Items Discussed First Street Vendor – subcommittee of Rozga, Brooks & O’Connor will assist Mikula in process. Disc Golf – Discussed recent article regarding an injury at a disc golf course. Injuries are rare but can occur, insurance coverage would fall under the City’s. Disc golf equipment should be available at City Marina for guests. Motion by Brooks, second by Swedenborg to adjourn at 6:30 p.m. All in favor. Next meeting date – March 18, 2021 @ 5:30 p.m. zoom or teleconferencing.
