Manistee Parks Commission Meeting October 20, 2022 A meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was called to order by the Chair on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 5:30pm in the Council Chambers, City Hall 70 Maple Street Manistee MI 49660. Members Present Liz Laskey, Lani Rozga, Bob Brooks, Tim O’Connor, Karin Maue, Karen Peltola, Kelly Greve Members Absent N/A Others Present Katie Trivisonno, Mickey McCann Approval of Agenda Karin Maue motioned to approve agenda, second motion by Lani Rozga. All in favor. Citizens/Public Comment N/A Approval of Minutes Tim O’Connor motioned to approve minutes from July, second by Bob Brooks. All in favor. Bob Brooks motioned to approve minutes from August, second by Karin Maue. All in favor. Kelly Greve motioned to approve minutes from September, second by Tim O’Connor. All in favor. Lani Rozga motioned to approve Parks Annual Tour minutes, second by Karen Peltola. All in favor. Correspondence Parks Tour Thank you letter from Jermaine Sullivan. Adopt-A-Park Volunteer Hours Report, Jen Teller. Committee Reports Disc Golf Update-Baskets are installed, waiting on final custom basket. First Street Ball Field-Bleachers have been painted, fence capping done, Press box improvements. 9th Street Boat Launch-Karen Peltola and Lani Rozga are planning a trip to Onekama boat launch. 5th Ave. Tennis Courts-Bob Brooks would like to approach City Council regarding tennis court rehab/repurpose. Grant Writing-Lani Rozga and City members completed Minger Grant application. Old Business Goals for each park-The Commission would like to schedule a work session on October 26, at 5:30 to discuss/set goals for parks, and list strengths and weaknesses of Commission. Morton Park Update-(2) Trees were planted. Park lights not working, report to Consumers Energy. Douglas Park- Basketball hoops need to be replaced. Origins Project-Origins Walk is open! Structures are installed and Dedication Ceremony was held on October 13. Lions Pavilion-YTD revenue was reported, $4025.00. Memorial Chairs-The Commission inquired about chair quantities and placement. They would like to be involved in the Chair program. Park Tour-Suggestions for next year’s tour included: information/needs of each park, stop and walk around, possibly divide tour into two trips, August month longer days and parks are in use. Round Table Motion by Karen Peltola to approve 2023 meeting dates (with the removal of December meeting date), second by Kelly Greve. All in favor. Tim O’Connor mentioned the Commission should be included in the approval process for all new concession vendors. Lani Rozga offered to be the liaison for concessions. Karin Maue spoke with Mark Fedder from the Manistee County Historical Museum. Mark offered to share his knowledge and present the history of the city parks. Possible dates for a presentation include January 19 or February 16. Karen Peltola discussed a possible radio control car track/course added to one of the parks. Bob Brooks suggested inviting Backstage Hobbies and Games owner to the next meeting. Adjourn Bob Brooks motioned to adjourn, second by Tim O’Connor. All in favor.
