Meeting November 17, 2022
A meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was called to order by the Chair on Thursday,
November 17, 2022, at 5:30pm in the Council Chambers, City Hall 70 Maple Street Manistee MI

Members Present Liz Laskey, Lani Rozga, Bob Brooks, Kelly Greve, Karin Maue
Members Absent Tim O’Connor, Karen Peltola
Others Present Katie Trivisonno, Mickey McCann, Jen Teller, Tom Ole, Jason Wygant
Approval of Agenda Karin Maue motioned to approve agenda, second motion by Kelly Greve.
All in favor.
Approval of Minutes Kelly Greve motioned to approve minutes from October, second by Lani
Rozga. All in favor.
Public Comment Jason Wygant from Ludington Hobbies presented Radio Controlled Cars
and Course program.
Jen Teller commented on RC course program. Jen offered playground
equipment suggestions and expressed her concern about smoke-free parks.

Committee Reports Disc Golf Update-Tom Ole reported all baskets are installed, waiting on
some finishing touches (trash receptacles, benches etc.). Families are playing
the course. A grand opening will take place in the spring.
Kayak Launch Update-Lani Rozga and Karen Peltola visited Onekama and
gave update on kayak/canoe rental kiosk.
5th Ave Tennis Courts-Bob Brooks mentioned repurposing court, possible site
for an RC course.
Grant Writing-Lani Rozga gave update on Spark Grant. The City is waiting
on response from Minger Grant.
New Business Museum Presentation-Mark Fedder will present History of the Parks on
January 19 at 6pm at City Hall, Council Chambers. The event will be
advertised and open to the public.
Beach Concession Stands-The bid process for 1st Street Beach and 5th Avenue
Beach Concessions will begin January 2023. Lani Rozga and Tim O’Connor
would like to be included and requested copies of the current lease
agreements for review.
Parks Budget-Liz Laskey inquired about the Parks Department annual budget and suggested
the Commission be familiar with budget line items. The budget is available online and
available to the public.
Lions Pavilion-Liz Laskey suggested the rental agreement become available online, as well
as the Adopt-a-Park fillable form. Laskey would like to see the revenue from rentals be
designated to the Parks Commission.
Parks Inventory-Liz Laskey is interested in knowing the acreage of each park and wondering
if all parks are owned by the City of Manistee.
Memorial Chairs-Other Memorial plaque ideas, and new locations. Possible benches at the
top of beach, disc golf posts, examples.
Round Table Discussion-Kelly Greve posted the bus tour event on Manistee Proud and
received positive feedback. Bob Brooks mentioned disk golf posts and would like to see a
more staggered layout. Liz Laskey would like each member to create a list of goals for the
parks for the 2023 year.
Adjourn Bob Brooks motioned to adjourn at 6:55, second by Lani Rozga. Motion Carried.
Next meeting date is scheduled for December 15, 2022 at 5:30pm in Council Chambers at
City Hall.
