CITY OF MANISTEE PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES Thursday, December 15, 2022 Members Present Liz Laskey, Kelly Greve, Bob Brooks, Karin Maue Members Excused Tim O’Connor, Karen Peltola, Lani Rozga Others Present Jeff Mikula, Katie Trivisonno, Mickey McCann, Seth Pratt A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 3rd Floor Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Chair Liz Laskey at 5:30 p.m. Approval of Agenda Motion by Greve, second by Maue to approve agenda. All in favor. Approval of Minutes Motion by Brooks, second by Maue to approve November 17 Minutes. Citizen Comment N/A Correspondence Laskey gave an update on the Spark grant application. The Amphitheater project is ineligible but the City is looking for other opportunities. Jen Teller emailed equipment ideas for Morton Park and a list of Grant opportunities for 2023. Committee Reports Disc Golf-Mikula gave an update on the new course. The course is open for play, waiting on a few items (Signs, benches, trash receptacles, picnic tables). 9th Street Boat Launch-N/A 5th Avenue Tennis Courts-N/A Museum Presentation-Scheduled for January 19th after Parks Commission meeting. The history presentation is open to the public. Concessions-1st Street and 5th Avenue Concessions will begin the bid process in January 2023. Morton Park-Mikula gave update on Morton Park, lights will be switched over to LED, DPW will run water source into the park. Field striping and new fencing was discussed. Budget-N/A Parks Inventory-Confirmation property ownership and leases. Grant Writing DNR Grants available for special projects. The City applied for DNR Trust Fund, will be applied to North Riverwalk. New Business 2023 Goals-Greve would like to see the completion of one park at a time, also a preventative maintenance schedule. Maue-suggested a spring checklist for parks and involving community/volunteers for spring cleanup. Access to funds for special projects. Mikula discussed parks budget and timeline. Laskey-Raise the bar, assign members to parks, list of goals, more winter activities in parks. Peltola would like to see more recreational activities in the parks, instructional programs. Old Business Memorial Chairs-Adirondack chairs are a success, discussion of additional chairs and placement. Mikula mentioned the repaving of 1st street beach loop including bike path and additional parking spaces. Also, the Lions Pavilion will continue with the rental program, rental rates will remain the same for 2023. Adjourn 7:05 Katie Trivisonno Recording Clerk
