City of Manistee Parks Commission Minutes Thursday, January 19, 2023 Members Present Liz Laskey, Kelly Greve, Karin Maue, Karen Peltola, Lani Rozga, Tim O’Connor Members Absent John Veach Others Present Katie Trivisonno, Mickey McCann A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 3rd Floor Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Chair Liz Laskey at 5:30 p.m. Approval of Minutes Motion by Greve, second by O’Connor to approve December 15, 2022, minutes. All in favor. Citizen Comment N/A Correspondence Jen Teller, Morton Park suggestions. Committee Reports Concessions-O’Connor waiting to hear back from City Hall on status of bid process. Morton Park-The project is moving forward. Laskey will meet with Jeff Mikula about plans and additional equipment. Grants Riverwalk-Laskey and Greve will attend the walk-through along with City Manager and Contractors. Summer Activities-O’Connor suggested Movies in the Park at beach locations and Morton Park. Also, discussion on Disc Golf grand opening, May 20, 2023. Peltola suggested utilizing our local resources and offer reading programs in the parks. Garden Club discussion. Rozga volunteered to present reading programs/activities to Library. Peltola suggested reintroduction of parks to citizens, utilize local transportation along with added activities. Rozga mentioned a possible parks tour. Peltola mentioned Art drop activities, utilizing local artists. Other suggestions included stargazing and story time bonfires. Roundtable Discussion Greve would like to schedule a work session with Neighborhood Restoration and Beautification Commission. Presentation-History of the Manistee Parks presented by Mark Fedder, executive director of the Manistee Historical Museum Adjourn Motion by O’Connor, second by Peltola to adjourn.
