City of Manistee Parks Commission Minutes Thursday November 16, 2023 A meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was called to order by the Chair on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall 70 Maple Street Manistee MI 49660 Members Present Liz Laskey, Karin Maue, Kelly Greve, Lani Rozga, John Veach Members Absent Tim O’Connor, Karen Peltola Others Present Katie Trivisonno, DPW Approval of Agenda Motion by Maue, second by Greve to approve the agenda. Approval of Minutes Motion by Veach, second by Rozga to approve October meeting minutes. Public Comment Linda Chick, Sands Park Teen Center discussed center improvements and asked the Parks Commission for their support. Motion by Laskey, second by Maue to support the Teen Center requests. Committee Reports Morton Park-Playground equipment, picnic tables, benches and trash receptacles have been installed. The Commission suggested a new parking lot and tree planting. Park Improvements-Veach would like to update the 2017 Parks Master Plan. Sub-Committees have been formed to address Budget, Maintenance and Capitol Improvements. Grants-Laskey requested a closure report on Morton/Duffy Park Minger grant. Riverwalk update-Correspondence from City Manager. Bill Gambill is working with WSCC and Spicer Group on the South Riverwalk project. Laskey suggested Spicer Group present a plan to the Commission. New Business Winter Activities-Suggestions: Snowshoe making, stargazing, skate/ski lessons. Old Business Summer events-The Library will be working on planned events for 2024 season. Maue suggested new activity Movies in the Parks. Lions Pavilion-Correspondence from Ed Bradford, financials. Suggested improvements include painting cabanas, remove shrubbery, matching porta johns (neutral colors).  Memorials-Laskey suggested adding a chair life expectancy to the chair program. Round Table 2023 Tour of the Parks. Maue suggested replacing the old basketball hoops at 1st Street beach courts.
