City of Manistee Parks Commission Minutes Thursday, October 19, 2023 A meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was called to order by the Chair on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 5:30pm in the Council Chambers, City Hall 70 Maple Street Manistee MI 49660. Members Present Liz Laskey, Karin Maue, Tim O’Connor, Lani Rozga Members Unexcused John Veach, Kelly Greve, Karen Peltola Others Present Jeff Mikula, Katie Trivisonno DPW Approval of Agenda Motion by Rozga, second by Maue to approve the agenda. Approval of Minutes Motion by O’Connor, second by Maue to approve September meeting minutes. Citizen/Public Comment None Correspondence Kelly McColl reported the Art Drop winner picked up prize. Jen Teller reported a donation of $200 gift card by Morton Salt to be used for the food at the Morton community build. Teller suggested installing a sandbox at Morton park. Jermaine Sullivan donated $200 to the Parks Commission toward Parks events. Committee Reports Morton Park-Community build scheduled for October 30 and 31st. Volunteers welcome! Amphitheater-Mikula reported a preliminary report has been received from Hunden. Grants-Update on Minger Grant and First Street Softball field maintenance. New Business 2024 Events-Storytime in the parks, Stargazing, Family game night. Suggested events: Plein air drawing, Movies in the Park, Astronomy camp at Sands Park. Improvement for the Parks 2024-Rozga suggested the City should purchase parcels at Man Made Lake and Ninth Street Boat Launch.  2024 Meeting Dates-Motion by O’Connor, second by Rozga to approve 2024 meeting time and dates. Memorials-Benches at Veterans Park need repairs. Suggestion to use fish memorials along riverwalk. Old Business Fifth Avenue Pickleball Courts have been lined. Laskey suggested adding a tetherball game to Morton Park. Round Table Mikula reported the construction of a retaining wall at Fifth Avenue Beach.
