City of Manistee Parks Commission Minutes Thursday, September 14, 2023 Members Present Liz Laskey, John Veach, Karin Maue, Kelly Greve, Karen Peltola Members Absent Tim O’Connor, Lani Rozga Others Present Jeff Mikula, Katie Trivisonno DPW Approval of Agenda Motion by Greve, second by Maue to approve the agenda. Motion by Maue, second by Peltola to amend agenda. Approval of Minutes Motion by Veach, second by Peltola to approve August meeting minutes. Citizen/Public Comment Seth Pratt commended the Parks Commission efforts. Correspondence Invitation to the Manistee Municipal Marina Open house, Saturday Sept 16, 20023. Jen Tellor resigned from Adopt-A- Park. Committee Reports Morton Park-Community build for Morton and Duffy Parks is scheduled for October 30 & 31. Discussion on Morton parking lot, basketball courts and 1st Street Softball field maintenance. Marina-Open house scheduled for September 16, 2023. The event is open to the public. Park Improvement Plan-Veach offered the parks 2022 improvement plan for review. Art Drop-Eileen Postma donated her paintings to the marina project. The first Art Drop was a success! Prize donated by Evan Greve. Kickball-Four teams signed up; games started this week. Tree Planting-Maue and Laskey met with the Tree Commission and are interested in planting trees at Morton Park. Grants-Mikula gave an update on the North and South Riverwalk projects. New Business Presentation by Sammie Lukaskiewicz, Manistee Convention and Visitors Center. Sands Park-Jim Grabowski commented on the list of repairs needed at the Teen Center. Grabowski would like to see pickleball courts within the city. Roundtable Maue inquired about the Minger grant application process. Peltola commented on the Art drop.
