City of Manistee Parks Commission Minutes Thursday, August 17, 2023 Members Present Liz Laskey, John Veach, Tim O’Connor, Kelly Greve, Karin Maue, Karen Peltola, Lani Rozga Others Present Katie Trivisonno, Jeff Mikula Department of Public Works A meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 5:30 at City Hall, 3rd Floor Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Chair Liz Laskey. Approval of Agenda Motion by Maue, second by O’Connor to approve the agenda. All in favor. Approval of Minutes Motion by Rozga, second by Peltola to approve July meeting minutes. All in favor. Election of Officers Motion by O’Connor, second by Greve to appoint Laskey as Chair. All in favor. Approved. Motion by O’Connor, second by Maue to appoint Greve as Vice Chair. All in favor. Approved. Motion by Maue, second by Greve to appoint Rozga as secretary. All in favor. Approved. Committee Reports Concessions at First Street Beach-Lake Gulls Concessions is operating the concessions for the remainder of the 2023 season and was awarded the 3-year contract. Morton Park-Community Build is scheduled for October 30 and 31st. Sinclair will organize the build, along with volunteer efforts. Commission suggestions included planting annual bulbs and evergreen trees. Mikula gave an update on the parking lot at Morton Park. Amphitheater-Mikula gave an update on Hundon and the feasibility study. Stargazing in the Park-Recap on 2023 events and discussion on future stargazing events. Grants-Minger Disc Golf grant, new sign has been installed at the Disc golf park. Mikula gave an update on EDA Riverwalk grant. New Business Winter activities in the parks. • Snowshoe at Disc Golf • Snowshoe making activity. • Snowshoe/cross country ski non-motorized trail  Park Improvement Plan-Update from Veach Peltola presented MRA kickball league, fall 2023. Art Drop event scheduled for September. Volunteers will line basketball courts at First Street beach, and tennis courts at Fifth Avenue beach. Round Table Discussion O’Connor commented on City Council meeting. Maue suggested Police in the parks event, Peltola suggested a National Night Out event.
