TREE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES JUNE 13, 2011 viy 01013_ isrk MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Sagala, Mary Ann Johnson, Bob Johnson, Bob Bernatche, Cookie Friedrich, Sue Verheek MEMBERS ABSENT: Pat Williams OTHERS PRESENT: Jack Garber, Staff Liaison, Kathie Boyle Pat Sagala called meeting to order at 5: 00 p. m. Motion by Verheek, second by B. Johnson to accept May 2, 2011 minutes and place on file. OLD BUSINESS 1st, Chalk Art Contest will be held on Friday, July 2011 at Pine& River Street. Activity is printed in the Forest Festival brochure. Bob Johnson and Bob Bernatche will be in charge of outlining the squares for the contest. A different colored chalk will be used for each age group. Members will meet by the fountain at 3: 30 p.m. to set up. Age group 5 - 6 27 squares). Age group 7 — 8 40 squares). Age group 9 — 10 ( 27 squares). Pat S. contacted the US Forestry for donations prizes and they will get back to her on June 14th Discussed tress that needs to be trimmed by the Elks lodge —Jack informed the commission that these trees will be trimmed in the next few weeks. Filer Credit Union in celebration of Earth Day 2011 donated $ 300. 00 for purchase of a tree that will be planted in the Fifth Avenue Area across from the Coast Guard Station. Members and News Advocate will be notified before planting. NEW BUSINESS B. Bernatche stated he would like to see the contractor after planting the trees put down a rubber mat around the tree. This would benefit the healthiness of the trees and keep them neat. Jack will check with Kevin from Preferred Lawn to see if this is something that could be done. Jack will take care of blocking off the street for the " Chalk Art Contest". Next meeting will be August 1, 2011 at 5: 00 p. m. at City Hall Lunch Room. July' s meeting will be the " Chalk Art Contest". There being no further business, Motion by B. Johnson, second by Friedrich that we adjourn. All in favor.
