TREE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES MAY 7, 2018 MEMBERS PRESENT: Cookie Friedrich, Pat Sagala, Janice Waterman, Bob Johnson, Sue Verheek, Pat Williams MEMBERS EXCUSED: Gerald Haw OTHERS PRESENT: Jen Teller Kathie Boyle – City of Manistee Meeting called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chair Sagala. CITIZEN/PUBLIC COMMENT Jen Teller resident at 712 Harbor Drive in to discuss her tree trimming request. Mrs. Teller is again requesting one branch be removed from the First Street Beach area. She provided the commission with information she received from five other communities regarding “view trimming”. The Tellers are willing to plant 2 – 3 replacement trees in any park or where appropriate, and willing to pay for clean-up. Believes the city should have a written policy regarding view issues. Mrs. Teller believes this is “not a terrible request”. Tree Commission did not change their decision on this issue and will not approve the limb removal. Motion by Friedrich, second by Waterman to accept April 2, 2018 minutes and place on file. Motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Chalk Art Contest Will be held on Friday, June 29th at 4:00 p.m at River & Oak Street. DPW to place barricades at the site. Boyle to purchase 100 coupons from Dairy Queen, Sagala to purchase books. COMMENTS Williams requested dead trees at 1st & Maple Street be removed. Sagala received phone call regarding removal of a dead limb on Concord Street. Trees at First Street Beach west of the dog park need to be removed. There being no further business, Motion by Verheek, second by Waterman to adjourn at 6:00 p.m. All in favor.
