CITY OF MANISTEE PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES Thursday, August 19, 2021 Members Present: Lani Rozga, Liz Laskey, Bob Brooks, Kelly Greve, Tom Swedenborg, Tim O’Connor Members Excused None Present: Jeff Mikula, Mickey McCann, Kathie Boyle - City of Manistee Mayor Beaton Zach Vega, , Networks Northwest Erin – District 10 A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. at Fifth Avenue Beach House Meeting was called to order by Vice-Chair Tim O’Connor at 5:30 p.m. Election of Officers Chair Tim O’Connor Vice Chair Robert Brooks Corresponding Secretary Lani Rozga Approval of Agenda Motion by Rozga, second by Brooks to approve agenda. All in favor. Public Hearing N/A Citizen/Public Comments Community Planner from Networks Northwest Zach Vega reviewed the county wide Park & Recreational Plan. Mr. Vega went over the plan and asked if we had any corrections or deletions. This plan does meet our goals and objectives. Erin from District 10 discussed the Parks & Recreational Assessment/Walking Audit, she updated the commission on what they have been working on for Sands Park. When audit is completed will send back to commission for feedback. Approval of Minutes Motion by Laskey, second by Rozga to approve July 22, 2021 minutes with changes. All in favor. Correspondence N/A Committee Reports O’Connor still working on a Parks Reservation System – will invite a Kentwood representative to a future meeting to discuss their system as they have done a phenomenal job. Old Business N/A New Business N/A Roundtable Discussion Greve – Will be working on Riverwalk tomorrow and welcomed members to join her at 9:00 a.m. Brooks, Rozga and O’Connor volunteered to help. O’Connor – Parks Commission’s Report to Council is October 6, 2021 – asking members to send him any information you would like included. Brooks – Park appear to be busier than ever before. Looking forward to the removal of the 5th Avenue tennis courts. Swedenborg – Is a dog run planned at Morton Park. Mikula – A section of the north Riverwalk has been barricaded off because the wood has rotted, dangerous for citizens. Also, will be meeting with the Corp of Engineers on upgrades to the south breakwater. McCann – Beginning to lose some of our seasonal employees returning to college. Vandalism in our parks is increasing. Zega – Thanks to the Commission and should have the draft recreational plan by September 3 rd for review. Motion by Brooks second by Rozga to adjourn at 7:10 p.m. Next meeting date – September 16, 2021 @ 5:30 p.m. at First Street Beach Concession Stand.
