Manistee Tree Commission Minutes September 12, 2022 Members Present: Gerald Haw, John Helge, Dennis Otto, Vidar Lerum, Sam Coram Others Present: Jeff Mikula, Jen Teller, Lucas Richardson A meeting of the Manistee Tree Commission was called to order by Chair Helge on Monday September 12, 2022, at 5:00 in council chambers at City Hall. Approval of Agenda: Approved Citizen/Public Comment: Jen Tellor commented on the Vegetation Management Plan And “View Shed”. Approval of Minutes Approval of meeting minutes on August 8, 2022. Approved. Unfinished Business Tree Planting Update-Tree planting is complete. There were two extra trees, and they will be planted at Morton Park. One homeowner awaiting stump removal for tree placement. The Commission received positive feedback from the homeowners. Jeff Mikula recommended for next year, publish the tree planting criteria to prevent the re-staking of trees. Vegetation Management Plan-Special Committee member Gerald Haw motions to move forward with plan. The plan would offer the following: • Tree Trim/Removal request form (include tree ordinance) • Resident would pay deposit and the City would hire tree specialist. • Process includes Homeowner, City/DPW and Tree Commission New Business Tree Inventory Management. Lucas Richardson, engineer from Spicer Group discusses the City’s GIS mapping system and how a tree inventory program can be implemented into the current work map. Meeting Adjourned at 6:25 pm.
