Room Tax Commission Meeting Minutes - Final October 1, 2019
S. McMeans stated at the last meeting the request would have been approved but
the Committee asked for additional information to be brought back to tonight’s
meeting. Since the last meeting another request for monies came in which
resulted in more requests than what funds are available. S. McMeans feels that the
Evergleam request should be honored.
J. Nickels stated that this is the first year that there were more requests made
versus funds available so there is no precedent set.
B. Jost explained the details of the $3,000 request and that the goal is to expand the
marketing into other cities and regions. The library and historical society will be
added to the event due to conflicts with the original venues. The downtown group
will be providing $1,000 towards the event.
Moved by Sitkiewitz, seconded by Brey, to approve the $3,000 request. The
motion carried. Ayes, 4. Nays, none

money will go towards marketing in the counties surrounding Manitowoc. $700 was
received in 2018 and it was estimated that 3,000 cars and 12,000 people visited the
exhibit at Lincoln Park. The group made approximately $32,000 in 2018 with $12,000
being invested in new exhibits. The remainder of the funds was used to support
the zoo and the new storage building which is currently being built adjacent to
cabin #2.
Moved by Nickels, seconded by Brey, to approve the award of the remaining
