Maple Grove City Council closed session Meeting minutes September 5, 2024 Call to order Pursuant to call and notice thereof, a meeting of the Maple Grove City Council was held at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Maple Grove Government Center/Public Safety Facility, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Present were Mayor Steffenson and Councilmembers Judy Hanson, Kristy Barnett, Kristy Janigo, and Rachelle Johnson. Absent was none. Also attending was City Administrator Heidi Nelson, Human Resources Director Krista Guzman, Employment Law Attorney Scott Lepak, and Consultant Barbara Strandell. Mayor Steffenson called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. Mayor opened the meeting and asked Attorney Lepak to address the council. Closed session City Attorney Scott Lepak stated the City Council has the ability to go into closed for preliminary session pursuant to Minn. Statute § 13D.05, subd. 2(b) for preliminary consideration of consideration of allegations or charges against an individual subject to council allegations or authority. He recommended and requested that the city make a motion to close charges against the meeting pursuant to Minn. Statute § 13D.05, subd. 2(b) to discuss the an individual consideration of allegations or charges against an individual subject to council subject to council authority. Mr. Lepak advised that the discussion be strictly limited to said subject, authority that the meeting is being recorded, and the recording will be retained for three (3) years per state statute and will become public data after the date of the meeting. He then requested everyone present state their name for the recording. Those present are listed above. Mr. Lepak requested that the Council meet in closed session and that a motion be made to go into closed session pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 13D.05, subd. 2(b). Motion by Councilmember Janigo to go into closed session, seconded by Councilmember Barnett. Council adjourned to closed session pursuant to Minn. Stat. 13D.05, subd. 2(b) at 8:07 a.m.. Return to open Motion by Councilmember Barnett, seconded by Councilmember Johnson, to meeting re-open the meeting at 9:11 a.m. Motion by Councilmember Barnett, seconded by Councilmember Johnson to approve the separation of the Fire Chief. Upon call of the motion by Mayor Steffenson, there were five ayes and no nays. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 9:13 a.m. by Mayor Steffenson.
