City's Beach Stewardship Program Excellent turn out and bring program forward. Marco Island Beach Steward on visor for $10.00 each. Katie O'Hara will order 20 orange visors for volunteer Beach Steward. b. Beach Schedule Updates Sam working on next year's beach schedule. Waiting to hear from regular beach sponsors. (5) COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS a. Plastic straws on the beach Katie O'Hara stated at last month clean up there were no straws found at Tigertail Beach only (which is scheduled quarterly). Thanked Marriott with helping eliminate plastic straws. Another beach clean up with CJ's on the Bay on August 18, 2016. b. Beach Clean Up T-Shirts Will inventory small children t-shirts available for hand-out. Interaction from Sunshine Ace Hardware to donated ten 5 gallon buckets to help with clean up. c. Beach Education Outreach Elaine met with Heather Lopez from Parks & Recreation at Mackle Park to educate n beaches present to Camp Mackle on August 4, 2016 starting at 1:00 p.m. Handing out gifts, brochures, and taking photos. Press will attend, members and 60 children should be attendance. d. 2016 Goals Future Goals: City of Marco Island Florida Page 1 Beach Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes - Final July 20, 2016 Beach Education Outreach - Elaine Lancaster More Publication coverage re: beach updates - Maria Lamb, Katie O'Hara Chamber of Commerce - excellent job on advertising FY17 Budget was approved to $5,000 year was approved. Apply some budget funds to T-shirts, with less money received from sponsors. Use local printing company for copying paperwork/brochures. Councilor Brown stated $5000 budgetary funds can used for anything or emergency. e. Goals 2015 - Progress/Status None. f. Budget 2016-2017 See above. (6) OLD BUSINESS Bob Brown updated on feedback on Collier County Coastal Advisory last meeting was June. continuation beach nourishment project finalizing central beach re-grade. Permitting issues can't finish beach re-grade project until next fiscal year. Hoping permit from Army Core of Engineers will be in early fall to schedule completion. Finished dredging at Hideaway. Nick Wagner, Director of Guest Services, Marriott stated sand was not quality needed. (7) NEW BUSINESS Elaine Lancaster received email from private citizen Susan Miller who walks beach, involved with Rookery Bay was concerned about photo riding bicycle on the beach published in Marco Review booklet. Marco Review agreed it wasn't best photo to publish due to code violation, wildlife, and sand not condusive riding bicycle. (8) PUBLIC COMMENT None.
