a. Chadd Chustz
Mr. Chustz reported good water quality on all beaches for March and April. FWC has
educational article for protecting shorebirds (threatened species). He will post article on
City website, need hand outs to educate resorts and condos. In 2016, CWA, Marco
Pass had largest ground colony of shorebirds nesting on northern side of Tigertail, near
Hideaway Beach lagoon.
Working with FWC educational program to protect pelicans on entanglement program. If
pelican is hooked, reel in, never cut line, secure wings/mouth, cover eyes with towel,
check hook, cut barb - do not rip out. For injured wildlife, call 239-262-2273 (Wildlife
Hospital at Conservancy of Southwest Florida) put in box securely.
Sea turtle nesting season coming up May 1st - Oct 31st. Lights need to be turned off
after 9:00 p.m., minimize flashlights, electronic lights and photography lighting. Mr.

c. MIPD Beach Patrol Report
Chief Schettino reported monthly patrol activity also posted (monthly) on City Council

and days are patrolled. Drinking is allowed but no glass. Continue to see more straws on
the beach, than bottles. Spring break is busy, extra patrol and night patrol for all to
abide by rules. Last year arrested 4, this year only arrested 2 beach goers due to
intoxication.
Patrols monitor water skis, educate beach vessels/boaters on no wake zone, need to be
750' off the beach.
When dogs are seen on beach, limit contact with owner, try to educate on beach rules.
There is no license system for service dogs, no proof dog is a service dog.
Member Rakestraw recommended Citizens Police Academy, excellent program.

Member Lamb stated Collier County ordered five (5) re-enforced 1,500lb. non-staining
