Advisory Committee
(1) CALL TO ORDER

Chair O'Donnellcalled the meeting to order at 9:00 A.M.
Present: 4- Member Boehner, Vice-Chair Eastman, Chair O'Donnell and Member Scarpa
Absent: 2- Member Barber and Member Ryan
(3) PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

(4) APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
MOTION by Vice Chair Eastman Chair O'Donnell, seconded by Member Scarpa,
that this agenda be approve. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE:
Present: 4- Member Boehner, Vice-Chair Eastman, Chair O'Donnell and Member Scarpa
Absent: 2- Member Barber and Member Ryan
(5) ID 21-1614 Approval of the May 19, 2021, Beach and Coastal Resources Advisory
Committee Minutes
MOTION by Vice-Chair Eastman, seconded by Member Scarpa, that this Minutes
be Approved. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE:
Yes: 5- Member Boehner, Vice-Chair Eastman, O'Connor, Chair O'Donnell and Member

(6) STAFF COMMUNICATIONS
Tonia Selmeski introduced new Beach and Coastal Resources Advisory Committee members.
Tonia Selmeski communicated information to the Committee regarding Audubon funds.
(7) PUBLIC COMMENT (TIME CERTAIN 9:30 A.M.)
Council Blonna shared some information from the City Council and the support on the new sea turtle
ordinance and the protection of burrowing owls.
(8) PRESENTATIONS
a. ID 21-1615 Audubon Western Everglades Quarterly Season Stats presentation
Audubon Western Everglades shared a Quarterly update to the Beach and Coastal Resources Advisory
Committee members.
(9) OLD BUSINESS
a. ID 21-1617 Gopher Tortoise Protection Sign Replacement on Private Properties -
Permission Letters

Advisory Committee
Tonia Selmeski discussed with the Beach and Coastal Resources Advisory Committee members the
Gopher Tortoise protection sign replacement on private properties permission letters
Committee members agreed and approved the Gopher Tortoise protection sign replacement on private
properties permission letters
MOTION by Vice-Chair Eastman, seconded by Member O'Connor, that this Old
Business be Approved. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE:
Yes: 5- Member Boehner, Vice-Chair Eastman, O'Connor, Chair O'Donnell and Member
Scarpa
Not Present: 2- Member Barber and Member Ryan
b. Proposed Locations for Additional Gopher Tortoise Crossing Road Signs
The Beach and Coastal Resources Advisory Committee members discussed proposal locations for
additional Gopher Tortoise Crossing Road Signs.
Vice Chair Eastman suggested changing the wording on the signs.
Committee Members gave Chair O'Donnell permission to determent the location of the Gopher Tortoise
Crossing Road Signs.
(10) NEW BUSINESS
a. Green Business Award
Tonia Selmeski communicated information to the Committee regarding Green Business Award.
Committee members shared some thoughts and ideas on the Green Business Award.
MOTION by Chair O'Donnell, seconded by Vice Chair Eastman to approve
dropping the Green Business Award from this year’s budget. MOTION CARRIED
BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE:
Yes: 5- Member Boehner, Vice-Chair Eastman, O'Connor, Chair O'Donnell and Member
Scarpa
MOTION by Vice Chair Eastman, second by member Scarpa to approve allocating
$1000 toward the Gopher Tortoise Survey Program and $2500 towards purchasing
and installing gopher tortoise crossing signs and burrowing owl signs at several
locations on the Island. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE:
Yes: 5- Member Boehner, Vice-Chair Eastman, O'Connor, Chair O'Donnell and Member
Scarpa
b. Gopher Tortoise Safe Harbor Program Discussion
Tonia Selmeski and the Beach and Coastal Resources Advisory Committee members had a discussion
regarding Gopher Tortoise Safe Harbor Program.
(11) COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS
Tonia Selmeski and Committee members discussed future agenda schedule.
