MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: Yes: 6- Member Barber, Member Green, Vice-Chair O'Donnell, Member Ryan, Member Scarpa and Chair Boehner Not Present: 1- Stephenson (6) ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE-CHAIR Member Barber nominated Chair Boehner to continue as Chair for the Beach and Costal Resources Advisory Committee. Member Barber nominated member O'Donnel as the new Vice Chair for the Beach and Costal Resources Advisory Committee. (7) OLD BUSINESS Gopher Tortoise thermal-plastic pavement marking signs Committee members discussed the price and locations for the Gopher Tortoise thermal-plastic pavement marking signs. MOTION by Member Ryan, seconded by Member Scarpa, to purchase the best and lowest cost image for the Gopher Tortoise City of Marco Island Florida Page 1 Beach and Coastal Resources Meeting Minutes - Final February 15, 2023 Advisory Committee thermal-plastic pavement marking signs and to be placed on S. Barfield with the concurrence of the public works Department. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: Yes: 6- Member Barber, Member Green, Vice-Chair O'Donnell, Member Ryan, Member Scarpa and Chair Boehner Not Present: 1- Stephenson Gopher Tortoise flashing roadway signs Committee members discussed prices and location on the Gopher Tortoise flashing roadway signs. MOTION by Chair Boehner, seconded by Member Ryan, to purchase and install four Gopher Tortoise thermal-plastic pavement marking signs. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: Yes: 6- Member Barber, Member Green, Vice-Chair O'Donnell, Member Ryan, Member Scarpa and Chair Boehner Not Present: 1- Stephenson 3 Gopher Tortoise starter burrow program Committee members discussed some ideas and locations for potential Gopher Tortoise habitats. Kathryn Grigsby will contact FWC to see what can legally be done in terms of setting up habitat and relocating / attracting Gopher Tortoise. Rodenticide advocacy Committee members discussed the elimination on Rodenticide usage. Committee members agreed to have several pest control and advocacy organizations present at a future Committee meetings to see what options are available to prevent secondary rodenticide poisoning. Volunteer Beach Stewardship Kathryn Grigsby updated the Committee members regarding the Volunteer Beach Stewardship Chair Boehner mentioned that they have completed the beach clean-up T-shirts sponsors and all shirts have been ordered. (8) NEW BUSINESS Budget Committee members discussed their remaining budget and what has been spent so far. (9) STAFF COMMUNICATIONS City of Marco Island Florida Page 2 Beach and Coastal Resources Meeting Minutes - Final February 15, 2023 Advisory Committee Chief Frazzano - Black Skimmer Discussion Chief Frazzano updated the committee regarding the Black Skimmer incident that happen at the J.W Marriott resort. The City of Marco Island Code Enforcement and J.W. Marriott Hotel are working together to have all J.W. Marriott employees, and outside vendors take a training class for driving on the beach. General Manager at J.W Marriott informed the Committee members that they will be creating a video to educate all employees and hotel guests on the beach regarding wildlife safety. (10) PUBLIC COMMENT (TIME CERTAIN 9:30 A.M..) None. (11) NEXT MEETING: CONFIRMATION & ATTENDANCE Next Committee meeting will be on March 15th,2023. Vice Chair O'Donnel anticipated his absence on the March 15th, 2023 committee meeting. Chair questioned regarding a new committee member. (12) PROPOSED AGENDA TOPICS FOR NEXT MEETING Committee members discussed creating a video that covers all of the Beach and Costal resources for educational purposes. (13) OTHER COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS Kathryn Grigsby mentioned that they got approval to put wildlife pamphlets on permitting boxes.
