(6) STAFF COMMUNICATIONS
Mr. Mike Daniel reminded the Committee that it had requested a tree plaque, but for him to move forward
and solicit pricing from the sign vendor, he needed dimensions and verbiage.
Member Cummings informed the Committee that she would research other tree plaques in the park and
present the information to the Committee for consideration as a model.
Mr. Daniel noted that Public Works was removing diseased trees along Barfield Drive which would free up
space in the median for the 10,000 Tree Initiative. Space will become limited given the new rules for
power, communication services and tree planting, but he noted that he would discuss this with the City
Manager.
(7) PUBLIC COMMENT
None.

(9) OLD BUSINESS
ID 22-2241 Beach Access Beautification Project
After much discussion, the Committee Members agreed that the Beach Access presentation would
include the following elements: 1) defining beautification; 2) quality of life, and; 3) signage and lighting.
This presentation will be presented at the June 20, 2022 City Council Meeting.
A draft of the presentation will be sent to Ms. Diedre Wint for distribution to Committee Members prior to
the June 20, 2022 City Council Meeting.
Member Leaser asked if the City's Affordable Landscaping budget could be engaged as a means to
facilitate projects from the Committee. Mr. Daniel stated the contract the City had with Affordable
Landscaping was 100% maintenance which did not include new projects, but noted that he would follow up
with the City's Purchasing Manager, Lina Upham, to determine if there were any provisions in the contract
that may facilitate new projects.
Member Cummings inquired if replacement plants were part of Affordable Landscaping contract. Mr.
Daniel stated that replacements would be done at cost, but changes-in-kind would be part of the
maintenance contract.
Member Cummings asked if the public beach access paths were designed by the adjacent building
owners or by the City. Mr. Daniel stated the paths were donated, and that the City reviewed the paths prior
to their donation. The City, however, does not have the time nor the staffing to review and recommend the
appropriate plants or required lighting systems, so any advice from the Committee would be helpful.
Chair Connelly informed the Committee that Affordable Landscaping had done a walkthrough of the public
beach access paths and provided feedback and pricing which could be reviewed.
Member Cummings noted that the Committee had recognized the need to hire a professional to coordinate
all of the different aspects of project design.
Member Leaser reminded the Committee that its engagement with the Naples Botanical Garden to work
alongside Affordable Landscaping in an advisory capacity will be helpful if the Memorandum of
Understanding is approved by City Council on June 20th..
ID 22-2242 10,000 Trees in 10 Years Initiative
Member Leaser presented the 10,000 Trees in 10 Years Initiative.
Member Leaser indicated that the proposal included a 5-year maintenance element that would establish a
fund with the City to cover the additional expenses. A table in the proposal outlined the plan showing how
donations would be used to support the program.
Member Leaser also informed the Committee of the proposed Memorandum of Understanding with Naples
Botanical Garden which would be presented to City Council June 06, 2022. If approved, it could facilitate
the discussion with the Public Works Staff and provide a template for the best tree selections and
placements for various locations around the Island.
ID 22-2299 Creative Wrap Utility Box Bases
Chair Connelly asked when the road work at Bald Eagle Drive and San Marco Road would be completed. A

utility box base which was left unfinished prior to road work still needed to be completed. In addition, she
asked if pavers were secured to complete the surrounding surface. Mr. Daniel responded in the affirmative
on the matter, and stated that he anticipated completion by mid August.
(10) NEW BUSINESS
No New Business items were presented.
(11) COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS
Member Cummings inquired about the availability of the fertilizer brochure for distribution, and asked Ms.
Wint of Public Works to follow up.
Member Kramer suggested that having the information on the City's fertilizer ordinance with recommended
citizen actions could be inserted with the monthly utility bills.
Member Leaser noted that Event kick-offs were also great ways to distribute informational items.
Member Kramer inquired about status of a mural being created at the beach access.
Chair Connelly informed the Committee that it had been presented, but that it was still on the to-do list
and would need approval, affordability exploration, and permission from adjacent property owners.
Vice-Chair Nesmith informed the Committee that he would follow up with the affected buildings owners in
the area to gain their permissions.
Member Cummings proposed installing seasonal information signs at the beach access points as an
effective means of communicating with visitors to Marco Island.
(12) ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business before the Committee, Chair Connelly adjourned the meeting at 2:50 p.m.
