(2) ROLL CALL Present: 6- Vice-Chair Connelly, Member Homuth, Member Kramer, Member McDonald, Member Watts and Chair Leaser Absent: 1- Member Nesmith (3) PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Led by Chair Connelly. ID 23-2759 Election of Chair and Vice Chair MOTION by Member Leaser to Re-elect Shelli Connelly as Chair. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOICE VOTE: Yes: 6- Vice-Chair Connelly, Member Homuth, Member Kramer, Member McDonald, Member Watts and Chair Leaser City of Marco Island Florida Page 1 Beautification Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes - Final March 1, 2023 (6) OLD BUSINESS ID 21-1888 Marco Nature Night 2023 The Committee was informed that the giveaways for trees from Affordable Landscaping and GreenPro that coordination was in place to identify and get a location for where the trees will be planted. Congratulatory remarks were extended to Member Watts who led this initiative for a well-presented and successful event. ID 23-2729 Marco In Bloom 2023 Committee Members were encouraged that even though the timeline for Marco In Bloom with only a few nominations were received to extend the deadline for submission that affect the departure of many seasonal residents. Recommendations were made for Committee Members to get involve and do their own self promotion by encouraging their neighbors, commercial property owners and passing out flyers as well as utilize the upcoming Council Meeting to highlight the Marco In Bloom initiative. ID 22-2207 10,000 Trees in 10 Years Initiative Members were provided with a draft of tree planting guidelines for Marco Island for feedback to the submitted by staff liaison to Chair Leaser who is leading the initiative. ID 22-2240 Arbor Day Celebration Plans are underway to coordinate the availability of the City Manager, Members of City Council and other outside interests including the school for a proposed date of April 21, 2023 A tree has been selected for the event and was in the care of Affordable Landscaping. Suggestions were made for a tree plaque with the name of the tree specie and in recognition of this year's Arbor Day Celebration. (7) NEW BUSINESS The utility box wrap at Heathwood and San Marco has been completed. Proposal was made for the Beautification Advisory Committee to landscape the vacant City lot adjacent to the Racquet Club. However, the Committee will seek guidance from City Council and Water Sewer Department Manager, Jeff Poteet. Two utility boxes were identified as being in need of repair. Speed Pro has been contacted to provide guidance on what and how this can be done. (8) STAFF COMMUNICATIONS The Committee's Annual report to City Council was scheduled for March 20, 2023 and at the March 06, 2023 Meeting two Members of the Committee will present Marco In Bloom to Council as a means to advertize the event. The Committee Members were advised to review their budget detail descriptions and current initiatives for the upcoming fiscal year. Also, Members were informed that emails from the public were sent to member of Council regarding funds in the amount of $6186 expensed to Affordable Landscaping for the 10K Trees City of Marco Island Florida Page 2 Beautification Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes - Final March 1, 2023 Initiative. The Committee redressed the concern for the $6186 as an expenditure approved by the Members to be used to plant trees with City funds on City property and that the 10K trees initiative was not get in effect at the time of this tree planting event. In addition, the Committee will clarify the concern raised at an upcoming Council Meeting. (a) BAC Financial Update ID 23-2784 Beautification Advisory Committee Financial Update The Committee discussed at length the status of past and present initiatives and the amount to allocate to the various initiative however, the matter was suggested for continuation at the next meeting. (9) PUBLIC COMMENT (TIME CERTAIN ..) Resident requested that the Committee consider beautification to raise the appeal of the median along the boulevard by refreshing the landscaping at South Heathwood and Winterberry. Also, the same condition exist along Sandhill from Winterberry southward. (10) NEXT MEETING: CONFIRMATION & ATTENDANCE Committee Members agreed to April 05, 2023 as the date for the next Meeting. Committee Members requested to join the Meeting remotely due to prior commitments. (11) PROPOSED AGENDA TOPICS FOR NEXT MEETING The Committee proposed Arbor Day, Marco In Bloom Winner Announcement, and Financial Review Update as items for discussion at the next Meeting. (12) OTHER COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS The Committee Members discussed and agreed that each Member would pick up the Marco In Bloom Flyers and distribute them to potential nominees for residential and commercial in the Community in order to expedite and meet the designated deadline for submission. Members will also review the draft for 10K trees and look for ideas for beautification for the corner lot adjacent to the Racquet and report them at the next meeting.
